DSSN — Have put it on a page minder in my Filofax, That second S is the key for me. and the D — can find all sorts of distractions instead of the simple DO IT!
I have been getting up 30 minutes early since morning is my best time. I have planned my most important magic activity (prayer time) during part of this time and another magic activity afterwards. What a difference it makes doinng what is most important to me instead of feeling guilty I didnt make time to pray or didnt get a task done and thats all before I leave for work!
So I have been at home this morning not feeling too great, but whilst back on the road to recovery late this afternoon I psyched myself up to do DSSN for 15 minutes. Wow!
First of all I resisted doing DSSN on the non-magic activities, although it was tempting let me tell you! I tried to identify one action from each of my 6 priorities. I sent a moody email to our glazers as it’s preventing me getting on with the house renovations, I sent an email to a family members lawyer to keep a case moving I am helping them with (legal/finance priority), I organized a blood donation appointment for in a few weeks as I haven’t donated in ages and was feeling a little guilty about it (community/society priority), organized a trip to see some family in March (family/friends priority), confirmed my attendance at a flamenco evening (to help my Spanish) in February. Didn’t manage anything on the career priority today but hey I’m chuffed with that start.
I did notice that when I went to book my blood donation appointment, the D and S were fine, but then the second S got difficult when I couldn’t remember my online password, couldn’t reset it, had to call customer services, then had to re-register all to make the appointment. I did resist giving up once the password retrieval didn’t work and recognized my tendency to want to put it in the too hard basket for today!
I have put a reminder in my to do app to reminder me at 14:30 each day about DSSN (one of my fallow times) so hopefully that will give me a little boost each afternoon.
I set up my system in my phone’s calendar and did a repeat for 1 week, just for a start. I am so easily distracted, I once heard someone say they had the attention span of a gnat….that’s me….I hope to get away from that and stick with a project to completion so I can move onto the next
I placed my DSSN reminder on my home computer for when i’m wasting time on FB instead of dealing with the real issue at hand which in my case is getting my tax done. i’m great at deciding, starting but fall at the ‘stick to it’ stage and go straight to next. so tomorrow i’m aiming for ringing and making that appointment and next day i’ll follow up the paperwork is ready.hopefully the end result is a super refund!
I tried it this evening when I was moving a small (I thought) bin of fall/winter turtlenecks & other long sleeve knits into my dresser, then repacking the bin with all my nice summer T-shirts & sleeveless tops….allllll of them. It was getting boring, my back was complaining. I thought about finishing it tomorrow, then stopped myself, Stick With it! Was soooo glad to have it done & up on a shelf, ALL DONE! A small thing, but made the point nicely.
Put the DSSN words at the top of my weekly chart. Going to put it on a Post It above computer.
Tried the DSSN system. Definitely had many urges to abandon task and run to the unimportant mundane tasks of life or escape to the online world. Used the DSSN system to start decluttering an overwhelming room where some of the piles are taller than me. Set my goal for 1 hour…Accomplished 3 and a carload of junk out the door. 🙂
My DSSN reminder is on my phone lock screen, home screen, laptop and various sticky notes around the house.
Being a dental hygienist, with scheduled patients, I don’t have the luxury to decide what I’m going to do each day. But, I can decide to follow my magic activites and find a ROUTINE that I will then start and stick with then use it on the next patient or or plan my next day. So far so good!!!
I did tty the DSSN. My magic habit was to spend a 20 minutes with hub, I would rather spend 20 minutes doing laundry but that doesn’t get my a happy husband and home.
I just added the DSSN right to the top of my computer screen. I have a feeling I will definitely be needing the second s for those tasks that are hard and my brain likes to complain about. They are very worthwhile tasks, but that fear definitely gets in the way! Today is the day to push through!
I’ll be putting DSSN on my monitor at work and at home.
I have post its everywhere and I’m ready to go!
