Today’s task will take about 1 hour.
We’re going to begin by identifying your very best way to work. We’ll uncover your ideal productivity style so that you’ll be able to get more done, with more natural motivation, and without willpower or tricks.
Let’s start!

Classic ENFP here …late to the game! living alone … 14 year old daughter with me every other week.
Large brainspace. Need balance of routine and flexibility. Early/mid morning most productive (aqua class 9-10 gets in way! need it though!) sometimes get a second wind. Extrovert living alone stinks — need noise around me to better focus. Too many distractions at home.
BIggest challenge? LIving with Multiple Sclerosis. Chronic, unrelenting degenerative neurological disease. Lack of energy. Fatigue. Unpredictability of how I”ll feel or how motivated I’ll be on any given day or hour of the day..
Hmm. Do better with scheudle and commitments … however, I don’t “work” outside the home …
Hmm.
I have adult ADD and I am quite chatty. Focusing has always been hard. I learned from this task that, I have a large productivity brain, my job as a dental hygienist requires that. I love routine, but with the new world of dentistry, that is becoming harder and harder. I seem to most productive mid-morning through the evening. A busy office is what I’m used too, but I like to find a computer and be alone in order to really focus and get my work done. As for seeing patients, I have so much I must complete or else, it has become a time management battle. I have tried, note cards on a ring, lists, charts, timers and yet i run behind often! This not only upsets me, but the next patient, and my co- workers! I end up staying late to finish chart notes and/or doing unpaid work from home.
I like one project at a time, with alot of tasks to do, early morning in a quiet place. My problem is which one to start on first.
I found out a coffee shop works better . I seem to work faster . I brought my office in a bag to the coffee shop before work to get some paperwork filled out and I was productive
I like small amount of projects, in a quiet place, and in the morning of middle of afternoon which is hard to do since I work. I could switch maybe a day each week to have an hour lunch.
I have just determined that I work best if I start my day early. Next week, I am going to start working on my main projects at 8am each day for at least 2 hours each day and keep a record of what I achieve each day!
I know that I get quite a bit done if I am dressed and start early in the morning with a list of things to get done.
I also know that if I answer the phone in the morning….then it’s all over….I am having lunch with someone and have to get dressed and the morning is gone. I think I must need to get up earlier and be ready!
I think my style is just to confuse myself. I make lists so very well – but never stick to them So much so I end up making the same list over and over! I definitely need help lol
So pleased to have found you !
I am most productive when the sun is shining — which I cant control. If its overcast I find motivating very difficult
I need to be alone and in perfect quiet and harmony – with everything done that should be !
What I need to do differently is LEARN from this marvellous site.
What I must not do is just use it as another thing I have to ‘do’ to be perfect and as a great excuse for procrastination

I do well mid morning to mid afternoon. I too like quiet and with 1-2 projects at time. I sort of like some variety in my day. I like some structure but I also like some surprises. What I miss most in my current job is an office. I sit in a loud cubicle and people are constantly talking to me or to others. Drives me crazy.
I do well around mid-morning and mid-afternoon for my peak energy times. I also like quiet and routine. I do better with just one project at a time. I start to jump around and leave things un-done if I have too many projects going at once. I need the freedom to be creative with my projects or else I get bored. Day 1 down! 🙂
Small productivity brainspace, Must have a plan but must have freedom to abandon it or I feel suffocated. Morning person, work best in a quiet environment. What will I do differently?
Schedule in my two big work projects to do first up in the morning. Door closed so I can focus. Check emails as they come in, but don’t zip off to answer them unless they’re urgent – hang in there with the big projects . Do as much as I can in the a.m., then do emails/phone calls/research etc during the pm.
Thank you so much, Michele and Kylie. Day 1 and I”m already feeling there just might be a way forward.
Multiple tasks, but I can take on too much. I like a routine and work best first thing. I like peppy music when I’m doing housework and quiet instrumental for office work. I’m transitioning from office to home and finding it difficult to establish a new routine. This was a very helpful exercise.
I know what I should do and what would be more productive. It is just doing it!!! I need to get up in the morning earlier but darn it…the comforter is so much more comfortable. I seem to accomplish so much more when I schedule and do prefer so, however my work environment is ALL about surprise visits and calls. They always throw me off my game to “get it done!”
I just finished this and think I can make a plan for my day tomorrow! I’m excited. Thanks for making me think already!
I think I am all but one of the bullet points in the large productivity brainspace, but I must admit to being more introverted than extroverted. I like variety in my life and routine somewhat and am definitely a planner, but it is the case that for “me” time I like to ditch the agenda, clear the day and be spontaneous (but I guess that might be counteracting all the busyness the rest of the time). I think that all makes me a large productivity brainspace with a mix of routine and flexibility, or am I in denial here about something I can’t see? I always think I crave some thinking time, which usually leaves me unfocused and I then resort to planning and organizing once I accept I’m not being very productive with the thinking time.
I am definitely a morning/early afternoon person. I get tired in the afternoons and am pretty much useless after dinner most evenings. I also think I am better with physical tasks first thing and then get more cerebral as the morning goes on. Although weirdly I also think I have some of my most creative moments in terms of writing in the evening, maybe that is just the gin and wine kicking in.
I definitely work better with little stimulation, I must share that office with Michele without realizing as I also have that chilled out space with classical music playing whenever I can.
I think that just makes me one mixed up bunny now – which explains a lot in itself!
So, I need to make the most of the mornings, and allow for some creativity in the evenings if it takes my fancy and work in areas with little stimulation/interruption. I should plan my day well, with lots of variety and some routine. I think I should try that approach first and experiment from there.

I know that I am more productive when I write my schedule out. I do not like to live by a schedule I prefer a more flexible schedule; but does having a flexible schedule really give me more freedom…NO. I have realized that I am much happier and feel much more accomplished on the days that I follow my daily ideal schedule. I am not that productive in the morning however if I don’t get my most important tasks (prospecting for new business) completed in the morning I tend to not get them done because there are so many “other” things that get in my way throughout the day. I really do like how you ask us to experiment with the different options. I look forward to being more on purpose and hopefully I can learn something about myself.
I have a small productivity brainspace, prefer a few projects at a time, routine and quiet. I am not really sure about my innate most productive time of day so that will require some research to really figure out. Currently, evenings or early mornings are most productive, but that is simply because there are no interruptions. I really need to evaluate my environment. As a branch manager of a bank, my preferences don’t really fit my typical day. Hmm. Food for thought.
