Welcome to Day 5 of 7 Days To A Dramatically Decluttered Home.
Today’s task will take about 1 hour. How long you spend depends on what you want to achieve.
A closet full of clothes and nothing to wear? Not after today.
Let’s follow Eminem’s example and spend the next hour cleaning out our closets.
If you’re signed up and logged in then today’s task will appear below.

I found this one difficult as I have so much other stuff in there. However, I managed to concentrate on my clothes, & once I got going, got rid of 2 large and 1 small bag of no longer loved items! Also took the door off the wire basket storage – it is nice to see whats there… 🙂
Now my husband has claimed some of them for himself 😉
I’m really glad that I persevered, cos now all my clothes are sorted instead of all over the plce cos they dont fit where they belong. Yaayyy!
So many hats that I am never going to wear – what was I thinking ? Someone else might like them.
I decided to do my closet and dresser drawers before the bedroom because clothes clutter was a big part of the bedroom clutter. This allowed me to swap out my winter clothes for spring ones and take stock of what is available for our upcoming Mexico vacation. In the process I filled a huge box to overflowing for donation. It feels so good to open my closet and be able to walk in easily and see carpet, and being able to actually see what spring clothes I have without them being crowded and difficult to get to. And the drawers are now organized so I don’t have to dig! The bonus is that the corner of the bedroom is more tidy, so it will be easier to tackle the bedroom next!

I love any excuse to clean out my closet! It speeds up the morning decision on ‘what to wear’ today!
I’m excited about this one. I have a friend coming to help me tomorrow!!!
The following is my group’s responses:
Our closets are organized to fit the closet you have. Confident; Friendly; Creative; Plain and sensible/warm!
Our bedroom themes are Hollywood Theme with photos of your favorite movie stars, singers and our crafts we make and Family heirlooms
Toss in clothes, shoes and accessories that: You haven’t worn in the 2 years Are in need of repair and won’t get fixed Set aside items that need to be repaired. Multiples of sweaters: Persons that live in the snow & ice – will need more than one sweater/sweatshirt even if they are identical.
Accessorize to create a new look to your outfits: scarf, jewelry, vest, earrings, belts, ribbons, gloves, shoes, purses and hats
Be on the lookout for anything that: Is a color: Red, purple, yellow, blue, mauve
Is in poor condition: Cut it up for rags or toss in the trash
Feels itchy or scratchy against your skin: If you’re allergic to wool or other fabrics; do not wear it
Feels uncomfortable = doesn’t fit right: alter the outfit or give it to a person who can wear it.
Is ill-fitting: Consider altering the outfit
Needs constant re-adjustment = belts need to be adjusted according to your weight.
Has a neckline or hem length that doesn’t suit you = high or low neckline
Is tatty = time to replace the outfit
Has been worn too many times = holes or tears or faded, pant knees ripped, pockets torn = worn too many times
Out of fashion = regardless of the old fashions; wear the fashion that looks good on you. Don’t worry about your wardrobe being in the current fashion.
Is not your style any more = blouses/shirts wear the ones that fit properly.
Makes you feel uncomfortable or unhappy = shoes: not everyone can wear spike shoes. Wear the shoes that are comfortable to you.
Doesn’t suit your lifestyle = Only wear complimentary clothes that look good on you.
Makes you look less than your best = try the outfit on before purchasing to see if it fits properly & the color looks good on you.
You just don’t love. Not complimentary to your body shape; don’t buy it or wear it.
Take a look through your closet for any item that:
Needs laundering put in bathroom hamper
Needs dry cleaning hang clothes that need dry cleaning & place in hall closet until you’re ready to go to the dry cleaners?
Alteration to fit properly Alter yourself or take to your local dry cleaning for alteration
Mending new buttons, new zippers: Is this outfit in good condition for alterations? If yes, then alter; if no, then don’t alter it and throw it out.
Re-heeling; polishing: Maintenance of shoes: re-heeling, polishing; when purchasing shoes make sure they don’t need special treatment.
I declutered my bedroom closet (it’s a big closet so also gets used for storage) and tossed out 2 boxes of ‘stuff.’ And with an eye to making my kitchen cabinets/space more efficient, I removed a whole bunch of glassware that will be added to the donation pile 🙂
I was only able to get to this task at the end of a long day so decided I would just spend 10-15 minutes getting started, then continue tomorrow. But I ended up being on a roll and after an hour I had tossed some old clothing, added to my donation box, and freed up the floor space of a couple of boxes I had forgotten were there that contained accessories and craft stuff – some of which I had been searching for a couple of weeks ago! I still have much to declutter but the extra floor space excites me because it gives me room to store some legitimate items and it’s opened possibilities for how I can re-arrange my entire closet. Yay!
my closet is not too bad, going to combine with dresser and linen closet….I’m being accountable, ask me later (and still on 1/2 speed from yesterday’s illness…
