Place dirty laundry in laundry bag or garbage bag
Place the bag in laundry cart or use your grocery cart
Check your local area for proper disposal laws of hazardous household products that are toxic in nature which would include old paint cans, cleaning supplies, etc.
Trash the following items: Decrepit brooms, dustpans, cleaning equipment; Empty bottles of laundry detergent, fabric softener, etc. Tatty baskets and hampers; Broken irons, ironing boards, etc; anything moldy, mildewed, or yucky
Clean laundries hang in closet on coat hangers or place in dresser drawers or use under the bed storage container
Separate fabrics; separate whites and colors.
Categories to separate: whites, delicates, colors and towels.
My laundry room is clean. I had a lot of clutter in there and I am happy that it is functional again. I also got a laundry system of having the kids put thief own laundry away.
Our group responses are: Get a large bag[s]. Throw into the bag:
Old paint cans, tiles, etc. = keep, recycle or trash [if it is usable keep]
Decrepit brooms [trash], dustpans [depending on condition], cleaning equipment if in good condition continue to use equipment]
Cleaning supplies you don’t use [outdated = trash]
Empty bottles of laundry detergent, fabric softener, etc.; Tatty baskets and hampers; Broken irons, ironing boards, etc.; anything moldy, mildewed, or yucky = trash
Pop your bag into the trash.
Stored elsewhere:
Car-related stuff –> in the garage
Random clothes –> in the closet
Spare paper towels –> in the pantry
Spare bulbs –> in the hall closet
Towels –> in the linen closet; etc.
Tips:
Don’t forget: empty pockets; unfold socks; unroll pant cuffs; turn jeans inside out & put in appropriate basket.
Always try and wash a full load.
Wash hand towels & smaller items of same color range with large articles, such as sheets & table cloths.
Make sure you know how to use the proper cycles on machines to minimize wrinkling.
Put a clothes rack by the dryer & hang clothes as they come out; put away by person/room.
If you can’t hear the buzzers on the machines, set a timer for the length of the cycle & keep near you.
Clothes that need ironing should be washed first so you can iron while the other loads are being done. Purchase wrinkle free clothes to eliminate ironing.
Wash delicate, underclothes, & hand washables while taking a shower.
I’d like ideas on how to organize a portable laundry (as in trips to laundromat)
Laundry almost sounds fun now in my new spacious laundry room!
Thanks to my awesome husband, this was done last weekend.
Okay, I’m back in town and ready to go. My laundry room is also the pantry and one of the few places in this tiny apartment with a shelf for storage so it houses a lot in a tiny space. I wish we could post photos.
