Welcome to Day 12.
How long does it take you to get ready – to go out, leave for work, head to the gym, face the day?
Let’s see if we can simplify that…

I have reduced my make up piles recently and cleared my bathroom of lotions and potions this week. If anything my grooming routine isn’t long enough, so I am committing instead to do the 14 day wardrobe challenge next!

It took me a while but I eventually feel that I completed this task. I did a complete declutter of my bathroom, throwing away a lot of rubbish and then giving it a good clean into the bargain. Good feeling. On to the next one!
I spent an hour or so in my bathroom with a carrier bag for things to throw away and a carrier bag for things that belong with all my make-up (this should live in the hall). I’m going to continue tonight and I am going to buy a cabinet for my bathroom to put all my bottles of lotions and potions in. Feeling good. Want to finish sorting through the bathroom, and going through all my make up this evening. I bet I find hundreds of lipsticks I’ve forgotten about…
My biggest annoyance is not being able to find things I need when I am getting ready in the morning. If all my bits and pieces are in the place they should be this should simplify my routines.
I liked this one 🙂 Admitting I didn’t use/wear things made it easier to get rid of them (and I love the look of clear spaces on shelves).
I reclaimed an organizer that was holding makeup I’m not wearing at this time and filled it with current makeup and tools. This makes my makeup table a bit less cluttered and will help me be more efficient when I’m putting on my makeup. I also realized that I need to go clothes shopping. I don’t have many cooler temperature tops that I like (temps are cooler than normal here these days) or most of the ones I have are black, and I’ve grown tired of wearing so much black 🙂 Shopping for clothes when I *need* them (rather than when I just happen to find something while browsing) isn’t my favorite thing to do but I will have to bite the bullet 🙂 I like my summer wardrobe so if summer ever gets here and stays a bit, it will buy me some time!
I agree that shopping is less fun when you have an agenda Ellen. But I find that knowing exactly what you need – as you do – makes it better. Hope you find some nice stuff!
Thanks, Michele – I think if I hold out for stuff that I really like, it will be worth it in the end 🙂 p.s. 5 years ago I never would have thought I could grow tired of wearing black! lol
Today I have spent some time really thinking about my grooming regime. I have tried to think about which areas of personal grooming I think are important to me and therefore what the minimum is that I feel I will be happy with. I’m happy to say that there are certain areas that are under control, for example the dentist and my hair appointments, but of course there are other areas that I didn’t feel I was paying attention to that affect my view of myself. Of course these are the areas that are more difficult than most for example diet and fitness.

P.S. Made haircut and dentist appointments today too!
At work, we ladies-in-our-50s realized that our grooming routines weren’t working. We would get to work with no eyeshadow, or we had used the moisturizer as toothpaste…So we have collaborated to come up with a plan that is working great for me! I got all my make-up, moisturizers, toothpaste, etc. that I use each morning and set it all out on the counter. Then I took everything else out of that cabinet. The makeup I wear for special occasions I put in a sparkly make-up bag so I would know where it is when I want it. I threw out a bunch of old stuff/dried up/never use it anymore. Now each morning, I take everything out (except the sparkly bag and the large economy size refills of shampoo, etc.) and line it up. As I use it, I toss it in the cabinet. Then I know I have put on deodrant…put on moisturizer… It’s great to get ready without having to think too much:)
Your idea will work for me. Thanks for posting!
Great ideas there Ann!
My morning grooming routine is pretty minimal but one thing I did today was to organize some of the brushes I use for makeup. I grouped some of the ones I use together and put aside a couple of others. It was more about saving time by not having to look for brushes that I want to use or handle brushes that I’m not using at this time. About a month ago I cut down my a.m. skincare/foundation routine from 4 steps to 2 steps. However, I have major decluttering to do re: both my makeup (did toss a handful of skincare and makeup samples today) and my closet 🙂

Got a haircut today and cleaned out my make-up container last weekend. Got rid of clothes I no longer wear (or should wear!). I arranged my closet to where I separated my work clothes from my casual clothes so I don’t spend time in the morning looking through tops I don’t wear to work. Next I plan to work on my shoes.
Well, my grooming “routine” is about as minimal as it can get. My closet is a work-in-progress – I have three bags to give away, but I know there’s more! I think I’ll tackle my underwear drawer next.
Good idea Jen. It’s surprising what a difference those foundations make to looking and feeling your best. 🙂
I’m doing the get rid of old make-up thing. That’s all I have time for today.
That’s perfect Deb.
Deb…I think the disco on Crossbay Blvd. was called “Mystic Colossus”
@[100001729691309:2048:Paula Beth] Okay, I’ll see what I can dig up.
I used to shy away from grooming because I felt I needed to use all of my make-up products, and that took way too long. Then I realized I can use just a couple of products to feel good about my grooming. I went through my make-up to declutter for the first assignment and got rid of quite a few things. It felt great! In terms of my hair, I might need a haircut as it is long, and it takes a couple of more minutes to wash and afterwards add my hair products. As for my closet, that is a big project! I will start to tackle that today.
Good luck with your closet Lety. Sorting that out will make you feel really amazing. 🙂
Funny, I called yesterday and have a hair appointment for today! I see the dentist faithfully every six months (I’m regular with all my health care providers). My closet is cleared out and organized by clothing type (all long sleeve shirts together) then color, my makeup routine is super simple, I bought all new undies the last time I had a 30% off coupon at Kohls! I feel like I’m totally on top of this one!
Feels good doesn’t it, Cheri!
For this one I think I’ll focus on my closet. I pulled all the winter clothes (for me and the kids) and they are in storage boxes, but we have nowhere to store them, so they are currently sitting in the living room. I’m sure I have more I can get rid of. I’ll look through there today, then get those into the donation box (also in the living room) and hopefully find storage for winter clothes and get that donation box out of the house here soon.
Lisa, won’t it feel great when those storage boxes are out of the living room…!! 🙂
Yes, it will. Tomorrow I’ll go to make the donation. I still need to find a place to store the winter clothes. :/
I recently donated all of the clothes I haven’t worn for awhile and it was so refreshing. It also helps someone out. If you can’t decide, a friend told me to hang all hangers backwards, turn them around after you wear the item, after a month or so, any hangers not turned around are the clothes you haven’t worn.

Since I already have a dental appointment for today, I can cross that off my list. My closet is already organized….by color and sleeve length. I’ve tried several times to organize my clothing by outfit, but it never works, because I have several things that I like to interchange depending on my mood. It’s definitely time to go through my makeup again, so I’ll put that on the list.
A good review of your grooming to-dos Marla. 🙂
