Welcome to Day 5 of 14 Days to an Organized Closet.
Today’s task will take 15-30 minutes.
Yesterday we decluttered and organized our hanging tops.
Today we’ll deal with skirts and pants.
Let’s start…
If you’re signed up and logged in then today’s task will appear below.

Skirts and pants done. I kept less than half, so more stuff to give away I don’t have enough hanging space so I only hung the fancy pants with my skirts.
Pants & Skirts done! I tried hanging my jeans for a change; I shall see what that is like. Should making chosing clothes easier.
pants done. It’s nice to know I have left stuff that fits me. It will be easier to pick out my outfits. I took my jeans and yoga pants that were in my dresser and hung them up. Now I can see all my foundation peices in one spot.
I have now ditched a load of trousers that didn’t fit ( another 2 bags), leaving some jeans, some capri trousers, some summer trousers and my smart work trousers. I included sorting my suits for work too, ditching about 4 of them as they were unlikely to be worn again. I also re-organised my partner’s suits and trousers and asked him to pop anything he doesn’t want anymore in the charity box we have set up, or tag it (coloured post-it pierced over the hanger) for the menders. Job done!
Again, I rarely wear skirts as I mentioned about dresses, but have reduced the skirts to a couple of work skirts, a couple of long winter skirts and a few summer skirts (4 I think!). Does that seem a lot still? I’ll see if the matching to complete outfits later on the programme helps weed out any more.
I have a feeling this will come later but I have several skirts that don’t have any tops to make them wearable. I might have a think about what I need top wise – probably a couple of plainish coloured cardigans (cardigans again!)!
I’ve organised my clothes into three distinct rails. Day dresses on one rail (packed), skirts and tops and cardigans middle rail (half empty), fancy dresses and DJing outfits for The Shellac Sisters on the last rail (also now half empty).
I have a LOT of clothes in cupboards / laundry bags / storage boxes which I will have to now go through systematically, But now I have started and have a plan in place I am not so daunted by this. i will consider each item as it comes out of storage according to the too small / too big / too tatty principles and continue getting rid of all but the best!
Onwards and upwards…
We suggest you sort your skirts, pants and jeans by season.
Men: Sort your shirts, t-shirts, sweatshirts, pants, jeans and suits by season.
Wish I had a big closet to hang all my pants 🙁
Folded neatly & tossed a BUNCH!
See how you go with your current space Ritcha. Maybe in time you may want to invest in a larger closet or a mobile hanging rail.
easy! the biggest change today was deciding that all my casual pants (sportswear, etc) can be folded on the shelf 🙂
Making better use of the available space is a big part of having a nicely organized closet. 🙂
I too haven’t been able to do it every day, but am feeling pretty pleased after completing Day 5 and added some skirts and pants to the give-away bags!
So impressed Mrs D!
You can go at your own pace and still get great results Anne! Well done on Day 5. 🙂
Not to hard to do skirts as I only have 3. Pants a few more but these were already thrown in day 1 so day 5 was very quick. My wardrobe is looking fantastic, I love the way I can see things!
Isn’t is more FUN to dress when you can find things! We have some really cool stuff we do on the last few days – I think you’ll enjoy! 🙂
Done… I really need to go shopping….
Don’t rush to do that yet Melissa. We’ll put together a shopping list toward the end of the program.
All done. Feeling lighter and even organised yet again. It did take me 1 hour in total. I parted with a few more items. I can’t believe how much I have packed to give to charity and my wardrobe space is not even looking empty, just well spaced. How did all this stuff fit into that space until now!
That sounds lovely Vesna! So many benefits – you feel lighter, you can use what you have more easily, it all look better, AND you get to help a charity. Love it!
Task completed and I’m so into it I went out and bought shoe boxes and new hangers for skirts and pants, so they can each have their own hanger.
Nice, Catherine. I think showing your clothes a little love helps you enjoy getting dressed more. 🙂
Have just come back on board… as it does my computer crashes so have 4 days of catch up…. The tools are awesome… Melsa
Great to have you back Melissa! Catch up at your own pace. Enjoy the process. I’ll be coming back to all the previous tasks so I’ll be here to encourage you and answer any questions. 🙂
I am in the middle of finals, but I am so jealous I didn’t start with you all. I will do this very SOON! Best wishes to you all!
Good luck with your finals, Danisa. See you when you’re done and we’ll get that closet ship-shape then! 🙂
In just two days, I have seen such an improvement in how quickly I can see my clothes and pick out something to wear! Love this!
You need to come help me once you’re done with your closet. 🙂
Wow I love that Carolyn! 😀
Sorry guys, but I’m going to bow out for awhile. Houdini couldn’t organize my closet in this time frame. In theory it makes sense, but in reality – it doesn’t with my stuff. I haven’t been a smart shopper over the years and it’s caught up to me. I’ll get back on track, but it’s going to take me more time than most of you. I have been having fun though – just not on schedule. ~pk~

Hi Pat. You don’t have to stay on schedule. If you feel you need more time, or want to go slower, just do it. I’ll be checking back through all these pages so I’ll be with you at whatever pace you need. You’ve made a great start Pat – don’t give up!!
I like the second tip about becoming a smarter shopper
It’s cool Catherine – the better organized your closet, the smarter you get about what to add to it! 🙂
