very few items and purses hanging as well as belts.
I also don’t have alot of accessories. I was at the thrift store and I did buy myself a cute sunhat. I needed one and I couldn’t resist under $5. I do need to sort my mittons, winterhats etc but am going to wait just one more month before I start thinking too much of winter.
This is easy because (aside from necklaces, I love necklaces) I don’t have many accessories… a few purses that I love and that I switch up depending on the season (these hang off hooks on my closet), my scarfs are on a “scarf hanger” above my dresser so I can always see them and my belts are all very practical, and kept with my pants.
My group suggests the following:
Before organizing your purses make sure to empty the contents. You can use key rings or clamp rings attached to coat hanger[s] to hang your purses on coat in your closet. Organizing categories: by color, every day and formal purses.
To store our hats we prefer using hat boxes. However, if you’re creative you could hang them on a wall.
Use a special coat hanger [round holes] to organize your scarves. Organize by color.
Use a special coat hanger [with special hooks] to hang your belts on. Organize by color.
Use a special coat hanger [with several clips] to hang your gloves. Organized categories: driving, winter or formal wear.
I have this hangy…thing… (I think it’s supposed to be for shoes) that I use for my scarves and a few other misc items. But it’s been a LONG time since I actually went through it, and sometimes it can be hard to find the specific scarf I want because they’re all jumbled up. It’s much better now, and I even have a few empty spaces ;).
When you can SEE what you have it’s much easier to make the most of your nice stuff. 🙂
Alison, IKEA have a great hanger for scarves, which I use. hard to describe though.
Hi Michele, is there a more space-saving way of storing hats and caps?
Hi Mare. You can tuck them into one another. This is great for saving space but can spoil the shape if you’re not super-careful. It can also be harder to see all your hats this way. Another option is to put some large, attractive hooks on the side of your closet (or a suitable wall) and hang your hats on these. As long as the room doesn’t get dusty, that might be a good choice. 🙂
Complete! As I don’t have that many accessories I went through de-cluttering most of these already while organising the first part of the shelves the other day. But I organised them better today. Still getting my head around how and where things are with some of the new systems. But my mind is catching up eventually.
Vesna, the main things to focus on are:
1. Keeping things VISIBLE so you remember to use what you have
2. Keeping only the GOOD STUFF that makes you look and feel your best
3. Storing things so that it’s EASY to take them out and put them away.
If you stick to those principles you’ll find it easier. Fab job!! 🙂
Thanks for summarising this Michele. Very helpful indeed.
Hi Michelle…just wondering if you can suggest a way to store scarves if you have a closet with sliding doors. I currently have mine in a drawer, but I see what you mean – I do forget about them a lot of the time.
Hi Alison. Here are some ideas for you…
If you always wear a scarf with a particular top or dress, tie it to that hanger.
Or tie all your scarves to a hanger, so they’re together and easily visible.
Or put all your scarves in a pretty lined basket and place it on a dresser or shelf. 🙂
Thanks! Will definitely use one of those ideas.
