The secret of getting ahead is getting started.
~ Mark Twain
Sometimes we put off things that we want – decluttering our house, or clearing out our closet, or starting our diet and exercise program, or beginning our novel.
We can’t imagine how we could ever deal with so much clutter.
We look at our wardrobes and feel overwhelmed.
We don’t know how to choose the perfect weight-loss program for us.
We have no idea how to write something so enormous.
So we do nothing.
I’ve been there. We all have.
But we don’t need to have a perfect plan before we begin.
In fact – we can’t. It’s only by starting, by making mistakes and getting feedback, by tweaking and revising, that we discover what works, that we work out how to do it.
So the secret is not to have a perfect plan.
The secret is not to analyze, discuss, or lament our procrastination.
The secret is to begin.
Whatever you want to have, do, be, or change, you need to choose a first step – and get started.
What will you start today?
Now that I have your very well designed to do lists, ” getting started ” has begun. Thank you Michele.
Doing ‘something’ will get me further than doing nothing ~ no matter how small!

Just watched a video of Tony Robbins and how he was failing at playing golf. His instructor told him that if he just adjusted his swing by a few millimeters it would make all the difference between landing in the water or sand, or landing on the green. He came across that exact same philosophy with a highly succesfull plastic surgeon he coaches. While waiting for him in the waiting room he looked through the doctor’s book of photos including measurements of his work, and found that the difference of mere millimeters makes all the difference between a beautiful face and a not-so-beautiful face. Amazing, right! He was stunned! And here we think it takes massive amounts of change, when in reality it only takes a bit at a time. Going to apply this now to my procrastinated pile of work that I’ve been putting off for way to many years. Let’s start digging! : P

Absolutely – a bit at a time, Marcel. We still get there and we don’t drive ourselves crazy in the process.
PS Are you doing 7 Days To An Organized Home Office (http://www.getorganizedwizard.com/shop/home-organizing/7-days-to-an-organized-home-office/)? We’re tackling procrastinated paper piles this very week.
I desperately need ‘7 Days To An Organized Life’ instead! But I suppose that starts with an organized office, right? So yes, I was thinking about it but missed the early bird deadline. I did however get an email on March 21st for the same deal which ended on March 18th, and thought it strange. Any chance I could still get the special rate?
Here’s the email link I got:

Hmmm weird. That link is to a blog post from early March Marcel, so I’m not sure how you received it on the 21st. A lot of people have been buying the program at the regular price and I don’t want to be unfair to them. It’s a fabulous program and $29 is super value. 🙂
Marcel Dartee Oh – it may have been in an email listing old blog posts at the bottom.
That’s probably what it was, Michelle. I believe it was listed under ‘Previous posts’ or something to that effect, but still with the same price once I clicked on it, though it did state the deadline of March 18th though. If it’s possible to still get the course then I’d like to do so, as long as I can follow it along at my own convenience. So how do I go about this, just click the link?

See you on day 1!!
Thank you, Michelle. Just wanted to know if I also have the ability to watch the same lesson again, or multiple times once viewed? You know how it’s sometimes good to rehash or go over the same lesson again just to make it stick.

Sorry Michelle, but is it at all possible to watch the lessons repeated times?
It’s written content that you sign in to view and you have access to all the content for 2 months from the start date – which was March 18. Good luck Marcel!
Some very good advice!
Great article, we always seem to want to have the perfect plan and there is no such thing, only way is to begin, start and then learn from mistakes and feedback. 2 Months gone of 2013, this will be my slogan for 2013, “Just do It”.

I love that Raymond! Good luck with the next 10 months… 🙂
Amazing Raymond. I have adopted those exact words for myself. Have then on a stickie on top of my laptop. “Learn from mistakes and feedback.” Good stuff. Thanks.
I totally agree and have a new philosophy these days… I less piece of clutter is better than none, one less piece of cake is better than none, one more step is still one more step… I always wanted giant obvious improvements, but I have learned that if I am happy and do the small changes, the big stuff seems to just appear one day when I least expect it.
This is so true Nerida – the small changes get us there! 🙂
Great advice Nerida <3
Beautiful philosophy Nerida. I am going to adopt it today. I’ve always wanted to “get it done now!” Can’t finish or I get overwhelmed and then never finish.
Oh Barb, that has been me for too long, but the new philosophy gives me such a better mood and definition of success!! Good luck
