Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words.
Keep your words positive because your words become your behavior.
Keep your behavior positive because your behavior becomes your habits.
Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values.
Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny.
~ Gandhi
If we want happier lives, we can start immediately, this very instant, by thinking happier thoughts.
For example:
- Not focussing on negatives
- Not complaining
- Celebrating small triumphs
- Looking for the good in people
- Being generous with compliments
- Consciously feeling grateful
- Savoring joys
- Forgiving people
- Downplaying life’s little irritations.
I’m going to take Gandhi’s advice and try to keep my thoughts positive today.
Who’s with me?
How will you think more positively?
My group responses are.
• Not focusing on negatives = be positive.
• Not complaining = don’t worry and don’t get paranoid.
• Celebrating small triumphs = losing weight.
• Looking for the good in people = don’t give up on your friends & don’t hold grudges.
• Being generous with compliments = we do give compliments.
• Consciously feeling grateful = and feeling good about yourself; good to be alive.
• Savoring joys = and being thankful.
• Forgiving people = small argument yes we forgive.
• Downplaying life’s little irritations. = Life’s too short to worry about small things.
I will think more positively by remembering what I can control and what I can’t. The Serenity Prayer for me. Grateful for my first grandchild, Laurel. Lifes little irritations, yes, I have to get to them quick before I start! I know I am trying to avoid something when I focus on little things, so I have to stop and think. Correct myself, forgive myself for being human and move on.
I am grateful for being able to post this today. Thank you.
Thank you for posting Beth. You’re very wise I think, to separate what you can control and what you can’t. Congratulations on your first grandchild! What joy that little girl will bring to your family. 🙂
This is so very true. If you are saying positive things then it is very difficult to be having negative thoughts.

Well said, Kelly!
This is a great post and at this time of the year, with all of the stress that we are all experiencing during the holidays, it’s worth the effort to try to remain positive. Being a minor victim from Hurricane Sandy, I have certainly been trying to remain focus on positive thoughts even more so this year. What I need to keep reminding myself is that once you start on a ‘downhill’ slide or spiral, it’s even MORE important to pick up the positive because the slide or spiral can speed up quick.
Wow that’s such a good point, Mary. The downhill slide is so very hard to pull yourself out of. If we can avoid getting into that pattern we make it much easier on ourselves.
I’m trying to think positive as much as possible even though I have lost my job and I’m really touching the bottom. I have time now to appreciate small things like taking a walk admiring nature and thanking God every morning for the new day.
I’m really sorry to hear about your job, Elena. It’s not easy to be positive all the time, but you sound wise to appreciate the smalls things. Best wishes to my my friend.
Thank you, have a Merry Christmas… with all your family..
Sometimes its difficult to stay positive in the face of all negativities but hey, there must be something positive somewhere in our live in a day shouldn’t it? 🙂
I agree Aini – sometimes it’s really hard to be positive. And sometimes it’s IMPOSSIBLE! What I like about this quote is the reminder that the more we try to make the shift, the more it becomes part of us – and then maybe we don’t have to try as hard. 🙂
