Welcome to the 30-Day Organize-athon!
In today’s 5 minutes we’re going to express-organize your laundry.
Our focus is clarity, freedom, order. Now let’s do it!
Day 9: Organize Your Laundry
Step 1: Get a large bag. Quickly scanning your laundry shelves and benches, throw into the bag:
- Old paint cans, tiles, etc
- Decrepit brooms, dustpans, cleaning equipment
- Cleaning supplies you don’t use
- Empty bottles of laundry detergent, fabric softener, etc
- Tatty baskets and hampers
- Broken irons, ironing boards, etc
- Anything moldy, mildewed, or yucky.
Step 2: Pop your bag into the trash.
Step 3: Remove anything from the laundry that should be stored elsewhere – eg:
- Car-related stuff –> in the garage
- Random clothes –> in the closet
- Spare paper towels –> in the pantry
- Spare bulbs –> in the hall closet
- Towels –> in the linen closet; etc.
Step 4: Do a quick tidy of your laundry shelves.
And you’re done!
Got an Extra 5 Minutes?
Review your laundry equipment and supplies. Make a note of anything you need to replace, update, or purchase so that doing laundry takes as little time and effort as possible. Check that you have:
- A washer and dryer that work well, and are of the right size for your family’s needs
- Laundry detergent, fabric softener, dryer softener sheets, stain remover, etc – in sufficient quantities for your household routine, and appropriate for your needs (eg for cold water, front loader, etc)
- Laundry hampers – one in the laundry (or several, if you sort whites, colors, etc); or one in each bathroom; or one in each bedroom (this can be more effective with kids)
- A laundry basket for transporting clothes
- An iron and ironing board.
Now doesn’t that take some of the pain out of doing laundry?

5 minutes was all i could spare so just made a dent.
Did last night when I got home from work, but forgot to post
That was easy! Done 😀
Done — a little easier than some other areas.
The laundry room is organized.
Done!
I spent over an hour on the task — first of all, my laundry room is huge; second, it was a true mess. So I’m not finished by any means, but I feel like I accomplished a lot. Will continue to work on it.
Done and found a full container of laundry soap!
Done, not much to toss, just re-arranging and re-locating some gardening items to the garage.
It was a weekend so it was easier since the laundry is tackled then. Tidy & replenished!
This was an easy one. I have to keep my laundry clean and tidy at all times as my cats are locked in there at night. There food bowls, bed and litter tray also live in the laundry so I have to keep the area tidy for them. My linen cupboard is also in the laundry and this task was done a couple of days ago.
Done
Yay!! done…… and it looks so much better
done 🙂
WOW…what a difference! My garage-located laundry area gets messy so easily, being out where other things are stored. Really needed this one!
done
Glad it’s done.
Done! This involved the shelf above my washer and dryer. I’ve had bottles of old plant food and other gardening things mixed in with my laundry stuff. Haven’t used them in years but have let them sit there, taking up space. Got it all cleared out…and it looks so much nicer!
I will do this tomorrow (Sunday) as I was gone all day. My laundry area is pretty cleaned out as we just had our foundation braced so we had a lot to do there already.
Done! But one of the hardest tasks ever!
