Welcome to the 30-Day Organize-athon!
In today’s 5 minutes we’re going to express-organize your laundry.
Our focus is clarity, freedom, order. Now let’s do it!
Day 9: Organize Your Laundry
Step 1: Get a large bag. Quickly scanning your laundry shelves and benches, throw into the bag:
- Old paint cans, tiles, etc
- Decrepit brooms, dustpans, cleaning equipment
- Cleaning supplies you don’t use
- Empty bottles of laundry detergent, fabric softener, etc
- Tatty baskets and hampers
- Broken irons, ironing boards, etc
- Anything moldy, mildewed, or yucky.
Step 2: Pop your bag into the trash.
Step 3: Remove anything from the laundry that should be stored elsewhere – eg:
- Car-related stuff –> in the garage
- Random clothes –> in the closet
- Spare paper towels –> in the pantry
- Spare bulbs –> in the hall closet
- Towels –> in the linen closet; etc.
Step 4: Do a quick tidy of your laundry shelves.
And you’re done!
Got an Extra 5 Minutes?
Review your laundry equipment and supplies. Make a note of anything you need to replace, update, or purchase so that doing laundry takes as little time and effort as possible. Check that you have:
- A washer and dryer that work well, and are of the right size for your family’s needs
- Laundry detergent, fabric softener, dryer softener sheets, stain remover, etc – in sufficient quantities for your household routine, and appropriate for your needs (eg for cold water, front loader, etc)
- Laundry hampers – one in the laundry (or several, if you sort whites, colors, etc); or one in each bathroom; or one in each bedroom (this can be more effective with kids)
- A laundry basket for transporting clothes
- An iron and ironing board.
Now doesn’t that take some of the pain out of doing laundry?
The 30-Day Organize-athon Mantra

did this a couple of weeks ago when the laundry room flooded! so done!!
Done! No paint cans and tile, but I did find empty cleaner bottles (waiting for the recycle bin, but never made it there. Well, they’re there now!), and a big box of wastebasket liners where I don’t have a wastebasket, so they never got used!
This whole process has prompted me to start on other areas that need work….in baby steps. After the laundry area, I started tackling my home office. So far, I’ve cleaned out and organized two drawers (each taking longer than 5 minutes….a lot longer). Now, I just have to figure out what to do with all the stuff I want to keep, but that doesn’t belong in the office!
This room serves for many things. Being in an apartment – it is probably our MOST organized. I love it being right next to my kitchen!! Can cook & do laundry all at the same time. Spend hours here!
Yeah, this laundry one was actually a 5 minute task for me!
done
I am done. Now on to more organization
All done.
Done. My laundry room is the garage. I only have a rolling cart to put things on so this was my first project that took less than the 5 minutes 🙂 So happy it was so easy 🙂
Completed
Laundry room needed some attention. Glad this was the assignment today. Also pleased to have the task done though it took a little longer than 5 minutes. : )
Clean and tidy.
Done….I don’t have a laundry room in my apartment, but do have a laundry area. So now it is clean and tidy.
I don’t ever keep anything in my laundry room because it’s just too small but most of what you describe is kept in my garage in my case so I headed out there to get rid of most of it! I am still absolutely loving all of this new found empty space!
Good place to tidy up. Done
Everything put away and laundry done.
I have a hanging shelf where I store the paper towels and cleaning supplies. Wall cabinets store cleaning/laundry supplies, bulbs, etc. My small cabinet on the floor stores small toolbox, etc. Need to keep this area straighten since it is the back entrance to my home from my outside carport. Makes a good first impression. Task complete. Laundry being done now.
This will be done for me on Monday- when the kids are in school…TODAY, it’s a ‘break day’ for all cleaning and a day for our family to go enjoy the beauty outside!
Done—nice and tidy!
Done! Feeling good about all the progress being made! 🙂
Done! I even put the cat’s dishes on a placemat. 🙂
