Welcome to the 30-Day Organize-athon!
In today’s 5 minutes we’re going to express-organize your laundry.
Our focus is clarity, freedom, order. Now let’s do it!
Day 9: Organize Your Laundry
Step 1: Get a large bag. Quickly scanning your laundry shelves and benches, throw into the bag:
- Old paint cans, tiles, etc
- Decrepit brooms, dustpans, cleaning equipment
- Cleaning supplies you don’t use
- Empty bottles of laundry detergent, fabric softener, etc
- Tatty baskets and hampers
- Broken irons, ironing boards, etc
- Anything moldy, mildewed, or yucky.
Step 2: Pop your bag into the trash.
Step 3: Remove anything from the laundry that should be stored elsewhere – eg:
- Car-related stuff –> in the garage
- Random clothes –> in the closet
- Spare paper towels –> in the pantry
- Spare bulbs –> in the hall closet
- Towels –> in the linen closet; etc.
Step 4: Do a quick tidy of your laundry shelves.
And you’re done!
Got an Extra 5 Minutes?
Review your laundry equipment and supplies. Make a note of anything you need to replace, update, or purchase so that doing laundry takes as little time and effort as possible. Check that you have:
- A washer and dryer that work well, and are of the right size for your family’s needs
- Laundry detergent, fabric softener, dryer softener sheets, stain remover, etc – in sufficient quantities for your household routine, and appropriate for your needs (eg for cold water, front loader, etc)
- Laundry hampers – one in the laundry (or several, if you sort whites, colors, etc); or one in each bathroom; or one in each bedroom (this can be more effective with kids)
- A laundry basket for transporting clothes
- An iron and ironing board.
Now doesn’t that take some of the pain out of doing laundry?
The 30-Day Organize-athon Mantra

done last week, so I will move on to the next days task now 🙂
Done! Large box of items to hazo house:)

Laundry room would be nice to have – laundry closet. Not much space for storage in a townhouse. Things just have to be multipurpose. 5 minutes done, but looking at how to better arrange things that just have to be here because there is no other place. None of these are easy in 5 minutes; 5 minutes must work for people who are already organized, but think they are not.

Another one I have recently done too. I have a tiny laundry anyway so was very easy 🙂
Been doing laundry all day, so this was fun! Thanks
done – getting all caught up…
OK this dark horse is catching up and about to start whizzing through the field. The part that has slowed me down is that I am wanting to blog about each day as my proof with before and after shots where possible. I know this is not part of the challenge but it makes me know that I am completing the tasks fully.
Also I know this is 30 x 5 but I have one bunch of 5’s to be catching up to even start making dints in some of these tasks.
So even though this task was completed it has taken me till now to write about it and link all things through. But I will catch up and I will be right there till the end.
Even if the last minute of the last day I am STILL sorting the garage I will get there and get all things done. !!
Done
Just did this (4/15/11). On the assigned day, I worked at cleaning up and organizing, but not here. This is a *daunting* task. I have a large, cluttered laundry room; I’m glad I only had to spend 5 minutes tonight. I had to constantly remind myself of the words, “Let it go,” but…. done – 5 minutes only, but done.

Well, I actually got sidetracked on this one! Finished tho’. 🙂

This one was easy. We don’t have much at all in our laundry. Do think I will put laundry hampers on the list for the kids rooms though. 😉
Whew! Complete!!!
DONE! Making a list of things I need to do to make the laundry closet more efficient. We have a family of 7 & no laundry room. We make it work. 😀
