Welcome to the 30-Day Organize-athon!
In today’s 5 minutes we’re going to express-organize your bed linen, towels, and table linen.
Think: clarity, freedom, and order. Let’s start.
Day 8: Organize Your Bed Linen, Towels, & Table Linen
Step 1: Get a large bag (you may need to buy more bags soon!) and open up your linen shelves. Moving quickly from top left to bottom right, toss out any:
- Sheets and pillowcases that are old, stained or tatty
- Towels that are old, stained or tatty
- Tablecloths that are old, stained or tatty
- Napery that is old, stained or tatty
- Blankets that are old, stained or tatty
- Quilts that are old, stained or tatty
- Bed linen, table linen and towels that are surplus to your general needs (allow for guests and keep a couple of old towels for spills and leaks).
Step 2: If something is really lovely, and can be rejuvenated by laundering or dry cleaning, and you’re certain you’re happy to make the effort, then put it into a separate bag. It’s unlikely anything else will be donation-worthy, except perhaps excess table linen that’s in good condition.
Step 3: Pop your bag(s) into the trash and/or take to the car for dry cleaning/donation.
Step 4: Do a quick re-order of your linen closet to make better use of the newly liberated space.
And you’re done!
Got an Extra 5 Minutes?
- Check your pillows – do you need to update them? If so, add pillows to your shopping list.
- Organize your linens with the main fold facing out, toward you. It looks much nicer this way.
- If you have an attractive table, consider dispensing with tablecloths altogether in favor of placemats. You’ll save on storage space and laundry.
Now don’t you just want to admire your beautiful linen closet?

Done!
I don’t have a linen closet.
I completed this but I couldn’t log in at the time.
This one was not too successful for me. Most of my bedding and such is already boxed up for prep in getting in my new place soon. So I only have what is necessary inside the cupboards/drawers that gets me by until then. Anything old and tattered was relegated to the bottom drawer of a dresser drawer for dust rags, etc. Done!
Getting caught up today while my husband has the kids bowling! Realized how much money I have invested in bed sheets! That closet alone took more than the 5 allotted minutes. Donating all the extras.
done
That felt good! Cleaned out the closet, so many random sets of sheets and pillowcase…and really how many rags does one house need?!
Spca’s and animal shelters love donations of old sheet, towels and blankets. Please donate what you can!!
Got it done!! Hoping to get things cleaned out for a large yard sale with some friends….When its not rainy or coldy…..
Day #8 done! I just had done this not long ago, so was a bit easier!
A day late but done.
Had already done this one last week. 🙂 Done!
Just did this one recently, so it was easy…DONE!
how about this one took me 2 days!! I have bedsheets all over the house evidently! ugh. this one was not my fave. I have no linen closet so I guess I have been shoving things wherever I could find room. Plan to make a new habit of not keeping what is not used..where do the sheets go to all these pillowcases anyway?!?!? I like the tip about donating to the Humane Society..thats what we are going to do.
I had a few towels that were no longer white. So now I have dyed them green and they are serviceable again. All done.
I’ve done this now. I originally commented on the wrong post so am now commenting on the right one. It’s all looking much better now
Done.
Linens … yep … looked in closet … thought … yep, we did this recently.
Not perfect but looks OK!
done!
All done 🙂
