Welcome to the 30-Day Organize-athon!
In today’s 5 minutes we’re going to express-organize your bed linen, towels, and table linen.
Think: clarity, freedom, and order. Let’s start.
Day 8: Organize Your Bed Linen, Towels, & Table Linen
Step 1: Get a large bag (you may need to buy more bags soon!) and open up your linen shelves. Moving quickly from top left to bottom right, toss out any:
- Sheets and pillowcases that are old, stained or tatty
- Towels that are old, stained or tatty
- Tablecloths that are old, stained or tatty
- Napery that is old, stained or tatty
- Blankets that are old, stained or tatty
- Quilts that are old, stained or tatty
- Bed linen, table linen and towels that are surplus to your general needs (allow for guests and keep a couple of old towels for spills and leaks).
Step 2: If something is really lovely, and can be rejuvenated by laundering or dry cleaning, and you’re certain you’re happy to make the effort, then put it into a separate bag. It’s unlikely anything else will be donation-worthy, except perhaps excess table linen that’s in good condition.
Step 3: Pop your bag(s) into the trash and/or take to the car for dry cleaning/donation.
Step 4: Do a quick re-order of your linen closet to make better use of the newly liberated space.
And you’re done!
Got an Extra 5 Minutes?
- Check your pillows – do you need to update them? If so, add pillows to your shopping list.
- Organize your linens with the main fold facing out, toward you. It looks much nicer this way.
- If you have an attractive table, consider dispensing with tablecloths altogether in favor of placemats. You’ll save on storage space and laundry.
Now don’t you just want to admire your beautiful linen closet?

done. did this about 2 months ago… all the sheets now reside in a giant (too big to fly anymore) suitcase in the garage… will be totally convenient once we get the garage organized!
Done.
Organized dh’s closet where bed linens are located and boys bathroom cabinets.
Finished!! 🙂
Done! That 1 was pretty easy!
Done!
Done. Not much there as I did this one about 4 months ago. Still managed to get rid of a few items though
Done – easy one I moved my linen closet last month and got rid of some then.
Tiny closet for linens – downsized and sorted when we moved into this condo.
Done. This is done weekly for me as I have one tiny linen closet. It pretty much got done on medicine chest day as it shares the space! New towels up in the guest bathroom just yesterday! 🙂
These easy to accomplish tasks are motivating and the changes are uplifting. I find myself looking forward to it every morning
Aside from straightening some of the towels in the towel cabinet, I don’t have any issues with linens as we don’t keep extras, so I spent the rest of the time in straightening in the all-purpose walk-in closet.
First thing I did this morning and found things that had been missing for years. I really look forward to doing these little projects everyday.
Done! Need to buy new linen!
Completed! I, too, donate extra linens, towels, etc. to the local animal hospital / shelter. It’s a great way to pay it forward!
Done! Found the missing pillow cases that I was convinced my cats stole!
Task #8 done.
Done! I realize I actually need new sheets!
Done! Fast and easy. Just found this today and I look forward to seeing the rest of the days missions!
I actually did this about a month ago…only thing I still need to do it buy new pillows…but, they are being worked into the budget. 🙂
Done. I too had too many blankets and washcloths. Where do the come frome???? It was hard to decide what to keep thought. It looks much much nicer and fits better.
Done! It’s amazing how much more room I have now simply by getting rid of two blankets we never use. 🙂
