Welcome to the 30-Day Organize-athon!
In today’s 5 minutes we’re going to freshen up your crockery and glassware.
Remember: take a deep breath and think clarity, freedom and order, as you go.
Day 6: Freshen Up Your Crockery & Glassware
Step 1: Get a garbage bag and line it with some newspaper.
Step 2: Quickly scan your crockery and glassware. Put into your bag any bowls, plates, cups, saucers, mugs or glasses that are:
- Chipped
- Stained
- Mismatched
- In poor condition
- Ugly promotional items.
Step 3: Place your bag in the trash or empty it into the recycle bin as appropriate.
Step 4: If you need to replace any items, make a note on your shopping list.
Step 5: Do a quick tidy of your remaining crockery and glassware so that:
- Similar things are together, and
- Most commonly used items are most easily accessible.
And you’re done!
Got an Extra 5 Minutes?
Decide to abandon your ‘special occasion’ stash.
- If you have glasses, crockery or other items you only use for special occasions, consider abandoning this idea.
- If the items are too delicate or not your taste, perhaps you could donate them?
- If they’re nice and usable, perhaps you could integrate them with your everyday stuff and get pleasure out of them more regularly? You’ll also save yourself the trouble of packing them away after every use.
Now won’t meals be more pleasurable?

Was out most of the day. Will need to revisit this task. Don’t think there is much to get rid of. Mainly need to better organize things.
Done. This one was easy. I slimmed down when we moved in a year ago & fortunately, I’ve kept it that way…except for that George Foreman grill…that could PROBABLY go..
Did it, but more to do for sure on this…we are renovating our kitchen soon so I have to go through all of it. Bring on Day 7!
It was purged recently, but I took the opportunity to get rid of baby bottles, since my youngest uses a sippy cup now. I still find we have too many pots and don’t cook that much, but my husband has the final say on that matter. He’s the cook. 😉 I’d rather have a cook with many pots than no cook at all!
This was a hard one for me. I got it done.
Done!
Hmm, I guess no more “special occasion” dishes from now on! Gone are those chipped glasswares we have too.
Done
I had done this last month. I had a great day putting like with like. I now have a cupboard with each of three sets of crockery and an everyday cupboard. depending on what we are having I do use my other sets as they are chinese, morrocan and posh white sets. We like to entertain. In the basics cupboard tho I did have a few odds that I have donated to Op shop. I love having my cupboards orderly.
Done! Boy, kids plastic plates and bowls get gross! Also it’s amazing how many water bottles we had that have no lids. As for dishes, I needed more plates, so I have decided to use the china plates I got at our wedding – 20 YEARS ago, that have never been used. What’s the point of having them, if I’m not going to use them?? And when they break, oh well, they’re just plates.
Love it! Can we do this next month too?
Done quite easily this time
Done! This one was easy for me — I recently (after Christmas) decided I really didn’t need my special occasion stuff and donated it. Only a couple of things to get rid of on this one. Phew!
Done. It was difficult to get rid of some of that stuff, lol. I think I was hording plastic because I was afraid my children would break anything else.
Done!
Done–great instructions!
almost forgot to comment! DONE
All done! I liked bee’s idea about the vases. I really need to do those. Thanks Michele!
Done – Cupboards look better without the mismatched coffee cups – I’m ditching my current dinnerware for new this week end. Rummage Sale here they come.
Done!
