30-Day Organize-athon | Day 6: Freshen Up Your Crockery & Glassware

30-Day Organize-athon 06

Welcome to the 30-Day Organize-athon!

In today’s 5 minutes we’re going to freshen up your crockery and glassware.

Remember: take a deep breath and think clarity, freedom and order, as you go.

Day 6: Freshen Up Your Crockery & Glassware

Step 1: Get a garbage bag and line it with some newspaper.

Step 2: Quickly scan your crockery and glassware. Put into your bag any bowls, plates, cups, saucers, mugs or glasses that are:

  • Chipped
  • Stained
  • Mismatched
  • In poor condition
  • Ugly promotional items.

Step 3: Place your bag in the trash or empty it into the recycle bin as appropriate.

Step 4: If you need to replace any items, make a note on your shopping list.

Step 5: Do a quick tidy of your remaining crockery and glassware so that:

  • Similar things are together, and
  • Most commonly used items are most easily accessible.

And you’re done!

Got an Extra 5 Minutes?

Decide to abandon your ‘special occasion’ stash.

  1. If you have glasses, crockery or other items you only use for special occasions, consider abandoning this idea.
  2. If the items are too delicate or not your taste, perhaps you could donate them?
  3. If they’re nice and usable, perhaps you could integrate them with your everyday stuff and get pleasure out of them more regularly? You’ll also save yourself the trouble of packing them away after every use.

Now won’t meals be more pleasurable?

The 30-Day Organize-athon Mantra

Move fast. Don’t overthink. Let it go!

My cupboard looks pretty bare. I think I like the look. I do need to purchase a set of matching drinking glasses. Didn’t realize what a modge podge of miscellaneous stuff I’ve been ‘storing’. Interesting.

I needed to do this one badly. I had glassware and crockery still in boxex from my wedding that were unopened, shoved to the back of the cupboard! On a top shelf were Japanese bowls and English teacups that had also never been used, but bought on sale. Donated a heap of stuff and now I have so much space in the cupboard -feels good when I open it!

done. I’d culled the crockery and glassware 3 weeks ago, so I tackled the “collection” (clutter) of glass flower vases in the pantry.

DONE. We moved about 3 months ago and hubby was a darling and helped me pack up the glassware. Thing is that he is an unconfessed hoarder!! So when we got the box into the new house, I had to discard at this end LOL. I’m not a hoarder, in fact, I love the idea of minimal posessions, but convincing the rest of my sentamental family that less is more is a tough job ESPECIALLY when I tend to be unmotivated. The only things my Hubby seemed happy to discard when we were moving were all my lovely books. He lost all his books in a house fire before we met and so I guess he has gotten over the sentimentality. I did a deal with him. The books came with us (in boxes) and if I’m not even tempted to use them in the next 12 months, then he can have that corner of the garage back LOL. I haven’t needed them yet LOL, maybe he is right on this one. SSSSHHHHH don’t tell him that. I might give the books until July instead of Christmas.

I did the everyday cupboard but I’ll need more than 5 extra minutes to scan through the cupboards with stuff for special occasions and inherited items. I’ll surely need an hour and some courage to get rid of some things but I’ll try.

  6. Kim says:

I did this one a few weeks ago. If I could just convince by bofriend to give up his coffee mug and shot glass collection. I did get him to release 2 mugs.

  7. Narelle @ Cook Clean Craft says:

Time to get rid of some ugly old jam jar glasses. Can’t face getting rid of my good crystal glasses yet though, even though they are not really to my taste anymore and I hardly ever use them. I’ll have to work on that issue!
