30-Day Organize-athon | Day 4: Declutter Your Bathroom Cabinets

30-Day Organize-athon 04

Welcome to the 30-Day Organize-athon!

In today’s 5 minutes we’re going to express-declutter the cabinets in your bathroom.

As usual, inhale a sense of clarity, freedom and order, then let’s get to it!

Day 4: Declutter Your Bathroom Cabinets

Step 1: Grab a large garbage bag.

Step 2: Open up your bathroom cabinets and, quickly scanning from top left to bottom right, toss into the bag:

  • Medicines past their expiration date*
  • Medicines for conditions that no longer apply*
  • Old, expired or yucky toiletries
  • Old, expired or yucky make-up
  • Old, expired or yucky bath/shower products
  • Ancient or dirty hairbrushes and combs
  • Old perfumes and lotions
  • Empty or mildewed bottles
  • Anything gross or unpleasant to use
  • Anything that hasn’t been used in the past 12 months.

Step 3: Throw your bag straight into the trash. Euw!

And you’re done!

Got an Extra 5 Minutes?

  1. Refresh your first-aid supplies:
    –  Make a list of items you need for a first-aid kit – including bandages, medicines, antiseptics and other emergency supplies appropriate for your family’s needs
    –  Check your bathroom cabinet for missing items and add these to your shopping list.
  2. Take everything out of your cabinets, wipe down the shelves, and return everything neatly.
  3. Rearrange your cabinets so that:
    –  Similar things are together (eg all oral care items are together), and
    –  Most commonly used items are most easily accessible.

Now don’t you just want to admire those cabinets?

The 30-Day Organize-athon Mantra

done. Set the timer so I wouldn’t be late getting to work (allowed 15 min as there are 3 drawers & 2 under-sink cabinets)
Finally tossed those expensive dept store lipsticks that were wrong for me, and those cosmetic bags that come with the “free gift with purchace” of those wrong-colour lipsticks I tossed

I am loving this! I start my day with this 5 (or more) minutes of organizing and it keeps me motivated for the rest of the work day.
    Thank you so much

Oh yeah! Did this- our Bathrooms in Ethiopia don’t have cupboards (lucky!) but I do have on shelf tossed anything that we hadn’t used in last 6 months- all meds in the other room were sorted and doses etc clearly marked now all in one zip bag. <3

I even went to Ikea to buy an nifty little set of drawer organizers. I will admit it pained me to throw out some of my products, don’t know why if I haven’t used them!! Oh, well. I am an episode of ‘beauty product hoarders’ waiting to happen. But, the bathroom is much nicer and tons neater. All the samples and travel sizes are in my travel vanity for vacation. Go figure, they have a purpose now!!

My bathroom cabinet has been decluttered, cleaned and organized. As a bonus the whole bathroom also got cleaned whilst I was at it.

  6. Kelly Hauge says:

Not bad at all. Something that really helps me keep organized in the bathroom are little storage bins I keep under the sing filled with all the little things like Epsom salt, nail polish remover, hydrogen peroxide..things I don’t use everyday. It really helps ‘de-clutter’ that space under the sink.

Also..GREAT Idea about the first aid kit supplies…on my list of things to do today.

I went into my bathroom to just tackle the 5 minute throw out of stuff but ended up feeling so good about that 22L kitchen garbage bag full of JUNK that I went ahead and gave the entire bathroom a good scrub down, cleaned all the cupboards and drawers, reorganized everything and scrubbed, scrubbed, scrubbed!! Feels absolutely incredible to have it so clean and clutter free 🙂
