Welcome to the 30-Day Organize-athon!
In today’s 5 minutes we’re going to express-declutter the cabinets in your bathroom.
As usual, inhale a sense of clarity, freedom and order, then let’s get to it!
Day 4: Declutter Your Bathroom Cabinets
Step 1: Grab a large garbage bag.
Step 2: Open up your bathroom cabinets and, quickly scanning from top left to bottom right, toss into the bag:
- Medicines past their expiration date*
- Medicines for conditions that no longer apply*
- Old, expired or yucky toiletries
- Old, expired or yucky make-up
- Old, expired or yucky bath/shower products
- Ancient or dirty hairbrushes and combs
- Old perfumes and lotions
- Empty or mildewed bottles
- Anything gross or unpleasant to use
- Anything that hasn’t been used in the past 12 months.
Step 3: Throw your bag straight into the trash. Euw!
And you’re done!
Got an Extra 5 Minutes?
- Refresh your first-aid supplies:
– Make a list of items you need for a first-aid kit – including bandages, medicines, antiseptics and other emergency supplies appropriate for your family’s needs
– Check your bathroom cabinet for missing items and add these to your shopping list. - Take everything out of your cabinets, wipe down the shelves, and return everything neatly.
- Rearrange your cabinets so that:
– Similar things are together (eg all oral care items are together), and
– Most commonly used items are most easily accessible.
Now don’t you just want to admire those cabinets?

Quite up to date on this event too! No doubt real soon there will be something I have to address as we are “up to our necks” in painting & updating the apartment.
I odn’t have cabinets in my bathroom, so I did all the drawers. Lots of stuff gone!
That one was a nice quick and easy one!
Am so pleased how my house has changed ALREADY! What a joy to open that bathroom cabinet…and the kitchen drawer, etc. This is REALLY encouraging, thank you!!
OH! Women’s shelters can really use the extra toiletries…not the ewwie ones…but those that you are never gonna get around to using before they expire. Most toiletries and makeup have a maximum shelf life of 3 years. Mascara should be changed out every 3-4 months.
WOOT! I am loving this! Thanks again for the motivation!
Done. So far these challenges have shown me that even though I don’t go through my stuff as often as I think I should, I’m still more on top of things than I think I am. I had a couple things that expired in February, but that’s about it. Was able to wipe down the shelves.
This showed me that I don’t need to buy any more toiletries for awhile.
Done.
Ok, all I have to say to this challenge is “Ewwwww!!”. My bathroom medicine cabinets and under sink cupboards were gross! I threw a lot of icky stuff. Definitely am going to have to repeat this challenge monthly.
Just needed to do the extra 5 minutes. The rest is still clean and neat.
This challenge gave me the cojones to decide I was never going to use a few things again and toss them. My bathroom’s in pretty good shape since I did that deep-clean in November, but it’s always good to get in there and check the medicine cabinet, just in case.
Did a express visit! Got rid of a lot! Going to do more tonight!
Day 4 completed.
Thanks! Back to work tomorrow – hope I can still keep up with the daily tasks!
Took a little longer than five minutes but done.
Cabinets cleaned out – but I got a nice lecture from my other half on how old medicines should be turned over to the pharmacy to be properly disposed of not thrown out.
still more to do here but did 10 minutes and finished 2 drawers.
Done! Feels so good!
Bathroom cabinets done. Why do we hang on to old medicines?
