Welcome to the 30-Day Organize-athon!
In today’s 5 minutes we’re going to declutter your exercise and sporting stuff.
OK, go! (PS That’s a witty little treadmill reference. )
Day 26: Declutter Your Exercise and Sports Equipment
Step 1: Quickly walk around your house collecting any exercise or sports paraphernalia you’ve not used in the past 12 months. If it’s too large to move easily, make a note of it.
Check your:
- Living room (under laundry?)
- Garage
- Bedroom
- Under the bed
- At the back of your closet
- Spare room
- High-up cupboards
- Home office
- Forgotten corners
- Attic
- Basement.
Be alert for:
- Treadmills, stationary bikes, elliptical machines, rowers, Stairmasters, home gyms, etc.,
- Outdoor bikes
- Infomercial purchases, including anything in the Thigh Master or Ab Roller family
- Skipping ropes
- Boxing gloves
- Racquets
- Assorted balls
- Sport-specific shoes or outfits
- Supplies for kids’ abandoned activities
- Climbing equipment; etc.
Step 2: Depending on the size, quality and quantity of your stash, decide how you’ll dispose of it. Consider:
- Selling – if the number and quality of your items justifies the time and hassle required (unlikely)
- Donating – if the quality is good (possible)
- Discarding – if it’s really just junk (most likely – the vast majority of items will fall into this category).
If in doubt, let it go.
Step 3: Unless you have genuinely sale-worthy items, take your stash out to the trash, or out to the car for delivery to the tip or charity store. If you’re selling, make a note in your diary to organize it.
And you’re done!
Got an Extra 5 Minutes?
- Tidy the freshly liberated areas.
- Go for a walk around the block to make yourself feel good about getting rid of clutter and also getting some exercise.
Now isn’t that a good way to increase your heart rate?
The 30-Day Organize-athon Mantra
Move fast. Don’t overthink. Let it go!

Done. Hopefully it stays that way.
done!
done
DONE This actually only took me 0 minutes as I zippo excercise equipment (other then two bikes stored neatly in a shed and an excercise mat that gets used) and no sports equpiment! haha yay us?
I could only find a single dumbbell in the back of a closet – no idea where it’s pair went! Oh well! It’s out now! 🙂
All done. With all this de-junking, I have the makings of a great yard sale. Now if only the weather would clean itself up so that I can have my yard sale!
DONE…only because we have none!! 🙂
i was able to clear all that out when we moved to an apartment building that has an exercise room. such a treat and no machines hanging around that just gather loose clothing!
Not much stuff. We don’t even own bikes. All I need is a ball to play with the kids, a kite, and sand toys. I need new sports pants, though, if I want to go out in the park more. Would love to play badminton, but will wait a couple of years, when kids are gonna be at school.
did some of this a week ago when we took the old workout center to the metal recycling plant (got $$ for it!) and today got rid of the old treadmill!! Now have to go and clean up the hole left by the treadmill! yeah!! hubby’s noticing a difference in the house!
Thanks!!
Only 4 days left!!!
Done last week! Thanks again!
Done! Off-season stuff is always stored out of the way. And we are good about using our year-round exercise equipment. 🙂
done 🙂
I’m all done here! I didn’t have much, but what I did have is now organized and put away neatly! Yay!
Task #26 done!
Done. Had to remove a few items the treadmill had been collecting. Found the bicycle tubes, so now I can get my tires fixed and ride my bike.
I can safely say this is done! I usually put my exercise equipment away.
I’ve subscribed! My goal is to declutter, declutter and stay decluttered!
