Welcome to the 30-Day Organize-athon!
In today’s 5 minutes we’re going to express-organize your surfaces.
Ready? Let’s start.
Day 25: Declutter Your Surfaces
Step 1: Decide which surfaces you want to tackle in today’s 5 minutes. Depending on the state of your surfaces, you could choose to declutter one or more of the following:
- Kitchen counters
- Dining table
- Coffee table and side tables
- Bookshelves/display cabinets
- Sofas and armchairs
- Home office desk and filing cabinet
- Bathroom vanities
- Beds
- Floors
- Entry hall table/consoles.
Step 2: Quickly clear your selected surface(s) by:
- Discarding anything you don’t use or love (a little ruthlessness will earn you lovely, uncluttered surfaces that look great and make you feel wonderful)
- Putting away things that have a home
- Finding a home for things that don’t (if you’re struggling to find a home for something, consider tossing it instead).
And you’re done!
Got an Extra 5 Minutes?
- Repeat step 2 for another surface – or several!
- Wipe down your freshly decluttered surface so it gleams.
Now doesn’t that look and feel fabulous!
The 30-Day Organize-athon Mantra
Move fast. Don’t overthink. Let it go!

Kitchen counter and table – complete!
Waited until the end of the day, but I’m DONE!
Picked kitchen. Done
Done!
tackled three surfaces. encouraged to do more!
Done.
got 4 of them done!
I chose to work on my bathroom/vanity counter- something I’ve been meaning to get to for some time now. Lots of shoveling in the garbage- how could I have kept on wasting so much space with so many unused products for such a long period of time? A great deal of what I was keeping there ended up being thrown out- I don’t care how much it cost me or how much I was tempted with the thought of “Well…I could STILL use this…..”. If I haven’t used it by now, chances are that I am not going use it by the time it expires (and I had some things that were well past the “use by” date as it was!). I LOVE the clear and uncluttered space- a delight to the eyes!
Dining table. done
Started with the kitchen counter and a decorative side table in the kitchen that was COVERED with kids’ projects. It was hard to get rid of stuff, but it does look a world better, and that’s even with a lot left to do!! It really just feels cleaner.
done
did 2 have a few more to do though
Bedroom dressers are decluttered! This was MUCH needed.
2 surfaces done today. I think I’ll put the locations of others which need attention in a lottery and let that be my answer to “where do i start”
Thanks
Dining table and hall table clear!
Done! surprised at how easy this was! I guess since starting the challenge most of my surfaces have been getting better and better and staying uncluttered!
Done…but it is going to take a few more 5 minute sessions to get them all lol
Finished for today.
one counter done. working on another!!
We’re in the home stretch!! Thanks!
Downstairs was done in preparation for Easter. Upstairs another story – working on that 5 minutes a day
