Welcome to the 30-Day Organize-athon!
In today’s 5 minutes we’re going to express-organize your surfaces.
Ready? Let’s start.
Day 25: Declutter Your Surfaces
Step 1: Decide which surfaces you want to tackle in today’s 5 minutes. Depending on the state of your surfaces, you could choose to declutter one or more of the following:
- Kitchen counters
- Dining table
- Coffee table and side tables
- Bookshelves/display cabinets
- Sofas and armchairs
- Home office desk and filing cabinet
- Bathroom vanities
- Beds
- Floors
- Entry hall table/consoles.
Step 2: Quickly clear your selected surface(s) by:
- Discarding anything you don’t use or love (a little ruthlessness will earn you lovely, uncluttered surfaces that look great and make you feel wonderful)
- Putting away things that have a home
- Finding a home for things that don’t (if you’re struggling to find a home for something, consider tossing it instead).
And you’re done!
Got an Extra 5 Minutes?
- Repeat step 2 for another surface – or several!
- Wipe down your freshly decluttered surface so it gleams.
Now doesn’t that look and feel fabulous!
The 30-Day Organize-athon Mantra

Chose to do my desk as it was looking very messy. It’s now much better but I need to sort the drawers out – just not with the new puppy around to chew all the contents. Thanks Michelle!
Did it! Cleaning off my china hutch made my whole dining room look Lov-er-ly!
After finding home for items cluttering the surfaces, I managed to win back free space. Great!
Well, I got one surface done today—and it NEEDED it! My kitchen counter was really cluttered with “stuff” that had just gotten stacked there. It took me a lot longer than 5 minutes to get everything sorted, & either in its place or tossed out, but it’s actually clutter-free finally! Now to tackle the table in my living room that also needs a good de-cluttering…
Done!
Easy – the surfaces are still good following a weekend cleaning frenzy.
Done!
Due to a busy Easter weekend, my desk had become cluttered. So that’s the surface that I did!
The task is done 🙂 I might do more surfaces tomorrow.
Kitchen counters done.
Day 25 done!!!!!
i cleared off a blow dryer and some other items that were out for the Easter preparations. also, had to clear my bed of some laundry that was folder and need put away. i really hate putting it away (not sure why)…. but both done now & i feel better.
Done 😉 Thanks so much!! Just needed some direction!
did this yesterday!!!!!
Had a little extra time so spent it finding the working surface in my art room. Things pile up so quickly in there but it is now looking very organized and cleaned up. Time to do another art project!
Most of it is done “on the go”, but more “in progress”…
The coffee table! Seems to end up with mail clutter, bills to pay, pending items, etc….now it has a plant and 2 small, colorful candles (from a Mexico trip!) and is sparkling after a good Lemon Pledge once over!
done yay!!
Day 25 Done!
I was doing this very thing, came to the computer for a break, and now I’ll go back for 5 more concentrated minutes on my kitchen counters!
