Welcome to the 30-Day Organize-athon!
In today’s 5 minutes we’re going to express-organize the things you would like to achieve for yourself.
Not what you were expecting? Let’s give it a go anyway…
Day 23: Organize Your Goals
Step 1: Get a pen and paper or open a new document on your computer.
Step 2: Without over-thinking, quickly list 5 to 10 things you’d like to achieve in the next 6 months. Aim for a range of goals across personal/spiritual, home/family and career/business/financial areas.
For example:
- Lose 10 pounds
- Organize the spare room
- Get a promotion
- Spend regular one-on-one time with each of the kids
- Save money for a vacation
- Read inspirational books; etc.
Step 3: Choose your top goal. Now choose one action you will take this week to move closer to that goal.
For example:
- Lose 12 pounds –> Go for a walk after dinner three times this week
- Organize the spare room –> Call a charity to collect the boxes of old clothes in the spare room
- Get a promotion –> Talk to my boss about what I need to work on to earn a promotion.
Step 4: Choose a time this week when you will do this action, and put it into your diary for the assigned day and time. Good – now you’re committed!
And you’re done!
Got an Extra 5 Minutes?
- Choose additional actions you will take toward your top goal, and diarize these actions.
- Choose more goals, and diarize actions you will take toward these goals.
Doesn’t that feel motivating!
The 30-Day Organize-athon Mantra
Move fast. Don’t overthink. Let it go!

I’m a list maker! So I have 3 lists on my computer screen using TurboNote (it’s just like a yellow sticky but it’s on your screen). The 1st note has any calls I need to make the next day / week. The 2nd has any quick trips I need to make -like grocery store, haircut, Dr appt, etc. and the 3rd sticky has those ‘goals’ you describe above. So everyday I see these and try to get something done! It keeps everything in one place, no piece of paper to find, and I can hit the ground running after my review of the day! Done!
Wow! I can’t believe this month is almost gone. Only a week left in the organize-athon! I’ve saved all the email reminders, so I can go back and do them again. Some of the things require more than one 5 minute session….
So, goals:
1) Give myself a raise
2) Complete my business team’s 30 day Blitz challenge
3) Lose 10 pounds
4) Get songs ready for upcoming church ‘gigs’
5) Organize my home office
Pick one?
The 30 day blitz. That will move me towards giving myself that raise, so I’ll cover 2 in 1. Okay, I’d better go get a move on….I’ve got calls to make!
I didn’t want to do this, because the first is so hard. I had a stroke 8 mos. ago, and it is hard to keep my balance. Everything else is fine. I just walk and lean to the left. So, the first thing I have to do is regain my balance. I am in Physical Therapy t help correct it. The others ends with going to Las Vegas to see my Granddaughter graduate from High School. From there??? Who knows.
Done… and feeling great! This is definitely something that I should do more often. It makes me feel so focused 😉
great exercise, did it
All done!!
This is something I’ve been struggling with for so long! I got your printouts at the beginning of the year for the 2011 goal organization but I haven’t been able to get myself to sit down and commit to anything until today. It feels so good to finally have it all down on paper and I can’t wait to get started!
After a week’s vacation, I’m back in business. Wrote five goals, but actually began the first one on our trip–exercise! I’d like to keep walking at least five times a week for 30-minute stints.
done
Thank you! I needed to sit down and get serious about my goals. There have been many things I’ve been putting off but now I am ready to face them head on and take action. Thanks for the push. It feels funny to say this one is done because really all that is done is the plan but that’s a big step!
Done
As I enter into my next stage in life… retirement… I need to make a new daily routine. I am still quite young, so I have lots of vim and vigour in me, so, yesterday, I did sit down and wrote in my trusty notebook, all the daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly plans of items I would like to do and accomplish. My big one being my daily routine.
This assignment is a fantastic reality!
Now on with the rest of my life!
Done 🙂
Done.
Done 🙂
Done. It could seem impossible before!
This organize-athon IS my current goal. Then I want to do it again each month until my house is all in order.
Wrote down other goals too…. don’t really like this assignment to be honest.
Thanks for the direction.
Day 23 done!
love this one! done.
I love lists and I set small goals at the start of every month. I just set some goals for the week. Done
