In today’s 5 minutes we’re going to express-declutter the kids’ toys.
Inhale: clarity, freedom, order. We’re gonna need it!
Day 17: Declutter The Kids’ Toys
Note: Decide on the extent to which you need to consult/involve the kids. This will depend on their ages and your family style.
Step 1: Grab a large bag or box. Depending on which option you choose in Step 3, you may need additional boxes/bags.
Step 2: Gather all the kids’ toys into one location. (If this alone takes more than 5 minutes it doesn’t count!)
Choose one of the following options:
Option A
Step 3: Quickly going through the collection, toss into the bag/box any toys that:
- Your kids have outgrown
- Are broken or dangerous
- Have been divested of batteries because they’re so annoying
- Are in poor condition
- Are doubles.
Step 4: Extract any toys that are safe and in good condition for a charity bag. Toss the rest.
Option B
Step 3: Give each child a large bag/box and ask them to fill it up with their favorite toys – the ones they want to keep. Explain that the rest can be given to kids who don’t have so many toys and would really love some more. (This may take more than 5 minutes, but perhaps you can go do something else while the kids ponder their collections?)
Step 4: Of the remaining toys, extract any that are safe and in good condition for a charity bag. Toss the rest.
And you’re done!

Check your own toy collection (um, please keep comments G-rated for this blog 
) for:
- Ancient, out-of-date or falling-apart board games
- Surplus packs of playing cards
- Previous versions of games consoles
- Computer/video games no one plays anymore.
Now won’t everyone have more fun with the good stuff that’s left?

Done! Now to get hubster to clean up his video game stuff and we’re all set.
we are making room for baby #2 (due in July) so this was a great one for us! It’s all done.
Did this one about a month ago. MIne is a teenager and I haven’t been able to get in his room for a very long time. When he was staying at his dad’s I bit the bullet and went in there with one garbage bag and a mission. Three garbage bags and about an hour later I was done. Didn’t find too many surprises 😉
No kids- so done.

Completed today’s task.
Task #17 done!
We do this about once a month so today was an easy one.
The kids’ toys in 5 minutes? Not a chance! I did, however, sort through one box, and it’s on its way to Goodwill.
No Kids! Easy day of rest =)
Done. We dumped out the kid’s toys and set a timer. They had 2 minutes to grab what they wanted to keep. Works great!
We do this job on a routine basis, so I’m taking the day to work on other projects!
Kids are teenagers, so this one was fairly easy. I did gather up the kitty toys, too!
Well, with 4 kids, this will definately take more than 5 minutes!! But, it will get done 🙂
This one’s easy since the youngest kid is 23 and toys are mostly gone.
No kids! Easy!

A dog – so a tidy up of dog toys, dogs bits n pieces etc.
Consultation – none. Mean huh?
Interest – VERY high…. sulking on dogbed now that leashes have been washed and hungout to dry at night.
But before I am labelled a meanie – my dog received today cast offs from the linen cleanup – two pillows with pillow slips that now match her crate cover.. She LOVES pillows. So two happy girls in this house!

We beat you on this one by a few days
We decided to put bunk beds in her room so she can have friends sleep over and in the process decluttered her room down to the basic toys that she plays with all the time
The top bunk at the moment is now home to her Mater Miracle Puppies that she gets each time she goes into hospital and her Dora dolls
It now takes her (miss DD 5 year old teenager) under 10 minutes to put her toys away
We are teaching her that she is only allowed to have the toys she is playing with out and they have to be packed back up before she can do any other activity
Now just have to teach her to make her own bed
So all done and dusted too
