Welcome to the 30-Day Organize-athon!
In today’s 5 minutes we’re going to express-organize your shoes.
We want clarity, freedom, and order. Now let’s create them!
Day 11: Organize Your Shoes
Step 1: Get a large bag. Quickly scanning your footwear, throw into the bag any shoes or boots that:
- Are tatty, broken, or in poor condition
- Are tragically out of style
- Are ill-fitting or uncomfortable
- Don’t go with your clothes, taste, or lifestyle.
Step 2: Do a second scan for anything that needs repair. If you know you’ll never get around to the repair, then pop these items straight into your bag. Otherwise, put them aside for later attention.
Step 3: Put your bag by the door or take it straight out to the car. (Really good stuff should go to charity, but let the rest go into the trash.)
Step 4: Do a quick tidy of your remaining shoes and boots.
And you’re done!
Got an Extra 5 Minutes?
- Look over the outfits in your closet. Would particular items of footwear help you get more out of your wardrobe? For example, for girls:
– Do you have several evening outfits but no good evening shoes?
– Could you get more looks from your jeans if had boots to tuck your jeans into?
– Would platform heels allow you to dress up existing outfits?
– Would ballet flats allow you to dress down existing outfits?
For guys:
– Would some black or brown lace-up shoes look better for work?
– Sorry guys – I’m out. - Add the shoes you need to your clothes shopping list.
As if you needed an excuse to go shoe shopping!

How to organize my shoes – so easy. Sunday shoes – wear, wipe, put away in closet. Everyday shoes, wear one pair, the other pair stay by the door waiting to be worn tomorrow. I do not understand this fastination with shoes. I have arthritic, diabetic, narrow feet but now wear a wide shoe to accomodate the calcium deposits and arthritis growths – shoes are not fun.
We will be on a tight budget for a while, so new shoes are out for the time being. I must make do! However I was able to toss a few that I haven’t worn in the last year…but only a few ;).
Getting rid of what you don’t wear will still feel good Stacey – and you’ll make room for new pairs when they do come. 🙂
This was done as Day 5 (still not convinced that is allowed). I chucked a few pairs of old trainers and boots. I don’t think I need any more shoes, can’t think of anything yet that I need. I tend to shop for shoes by outfit, rather than type (e.g. dressy, flats etc.).
Amanda, did you just say, ‘I don’t think I need any more shoes’????
LOL I can’t imagine myself uttering that sentence! 😀
Done. This one was a bit painful – outdated shoes that have good memories. But… I get to buy new shoes 🙂
Shoes done!
Great excuse to go shoe shopping. Need more ballet flats. Black preferably. 🙂
Done
Done. Easiest one yet! The only pair of shoes I need to purchase is dressy heels that my mom’s dog ate last Saturday.
Done!
Did it and can now fit all my shoes on my shoe rack on the closet floor.
Done.
This was easy… kinda did this a few weeks back when getting things together for a garage sale. But I did manage to purge a little more and did my son’s shoes as well. So I’m done!
just did that couple weeks ago so it’s DONE
done!
