Welcome to the 30-Day Organize-athon!
In today’s 5 minutes we’re going to express-organize your garage (yes, I’m serious!).
Remember: clarity, freedom, and order. Let’s begin.
Day 10: Organize Your Garage
Step 1: Get a large box or bag (you may need several). Quickly scan your garage and toss into your box/bag any:
- Junk
- Outgrown toys and clothes (if sorting through boxes for donate-able items is an obstacle to getting it done, then simply toss it all)
- Ancient seasonal items, holiday decorations, etc
- Rusty or broken tools
- Rusty or broken gardening implements
- Rusty or broken garden furniture
- Prehistoric gardening supplies
- Memorabilia (unless it’s genuinely meaningful to you – and if it’s been gathering dust out here for decades, then let’s be honest, it probably isn’t)
- Stuff from when you last moved that’s never been unpacked (if you haven’t opened it you don’t need it)
- Notes and books from school, college, etc
- Accoutrement for abandoned hobbies, sports and interests (if you take it up again, buy what you need afresh; it will cost you less overall when you take stress, clutter and mental clarity into account)
- Anything you haven’t used in the past 12 months.
Step 2: Pop your boxes/bags into the trash or take them the car for a trip to the tip.
And you’re done!
Got an Extra 5 Minutes?
- Consider whether you want to install shelving, hooks, etc, to better organize your garage space.
- Make a note to buy shelves, hooks, and supplies, and/or or to contact a handyman.
Now isn’t that a beautiful thing?
The 30-Day Organize-athon Mantra
Move fast. Don’t overthink. Let it go!

OK I don’t have a garage but resisted the urge to skip this entirely as I do have a garden storage box, so I pretended that was my garage (without trying to fit my car in it), another job done but this has made me add the shed, under the stairs, the landing cupboard, my junk room and the ensuite bathroom (mid renovation and acting as a tool room) so I am definitely in negative equity with the task list today 🙁
Just remember Amanda that you don’t have to do everything quickly or perfectly. You are really CHANGING YOUR LIFE, so be kind to yourself and feel great about the HUGE changes you’ve already made. This might take a while. I think we are alike in wanting things to be DONE – but if you can, try to enjoy the journey too. 🙂
Since our garage has been serving as storage, many areas are unreachable at the moment and this will be waiting until Wednesday and hopefully we will be so tired that most of it GOES.
‘most of it GOES’. I absolutely love that Stacey! 🙂

Done – I have a carport but they seem to get cluttered too.
don’t have a garage but I hit our storage area that we store garage type stuff!
Feels great to be able to park both cars in the garage without a whole bunch of storage bins.
Done
done
mostly finished
Okay – catch up day! Done with 7, 8, 9 tasks. I went a little crazy with #8 and cleared out the whole spareroom that holds all extra linens and such. But oh how it feels soooo good. 🙂 I already did #10 on my portion of the garage a few weeks ago when I had a garage sale. Happy to be back on track!
Not Done, sabbath is sabbath
done!
My 2 hour – 5 minute task was the chip off the top of the mountain – plenty more work to do in there but has been started and will continue to up date

I don’t have a garage, but let’s say done.
My partner is tackling this one. The shed is his domain!!!
Ok, my most dreaded task…only could do this because it was a mere 5-minutes….now I can breathe!
Done
We don’t have an actual garage, but little areas here and there that would be in a garage. I spent 15 min. or so last week, but it definitely can use more! So for this session I cleared off a table, throwing away and sorting – still have to take care of sorted piles.
Well i’m done with the things I dare touch! Maschines, tools, things for the car and the boat I dare not remove, so….. 😉
We have a 3bay shed which hubby cleaned out the other day! I didn’t even ask…something must be rubbing off!!! Still more to go but I’m considering this one done – for now! 😉
