5 Tips to Whip Your Garage Into Shape
1. Use Pegboard
When planning your garage organization, it’s best to start with the walls. Pegboard or paneling are excellent additions to any garage space, allowing tools and other items to easily be stored directly on the walls in an organized manner.
Consider tracing the outline of tools, sports equipment, and anything else you suspend from the walls to make it easy to remember where everything goes.
2. Utilize Wall Space
In addition to pegboard, you can buy wall hooks – lots of them!
Hooks are beneficial for hanging bikes, strollers, even ladders from the walls or ceiling of your garage so you to keep items off of the ground, and thus make space for your car. Attach buckets, bins and cans to the walls to organize small items like nails, sidewalk chalk, and spray paint.
3. Build a Workbench
If you plan on spending any time working in your garage, or just want a designated place to keep tools and other smaller items, consider building a workbench.
Much like a table in the entryway of your home, a workbench can serve as a catch-all, offering a place to keep items you need easy access to. Not to mention, a work bench makes any garage look pulled together and organized.
4. Ceiling Storage
Use every last inch of your garage for storage—be creative. Ceiling storage systems can easily be purchased just about anywhere, giving you even more options to keep boxes, bins, and larger items off the floor and in a designated place.
5. Think Outside the Box
Rope, twine, hoses, and extension cords are notorious for making a mess and taking up space in the garage since there’s really nowhere else to store them.
Mount a bucket to the wall, fill it with car wash supplies or spray nozzles, then wrap it with the hose.
Reuse old coffee cans to store rope and twine, poking a hole in the plastic top to allow for easy dispensing. And extension cords? Attach a short piece of chain to a hook for quick, organized storage and easy access.

Ive always had the impression that our garage is smaller than other peoples. But this summer, we reorganized it, got pegboards, wall hooks, threw out old stuff and now we have more room than we know what to do with! We can fit our car and a small gym comfortably and Im also considering getting a workbench but that might be too much 🙂 :/ Do you know of a smaller workbench that would fit?
