Welcome to the third of our 52 Organizing Missions.
If you’ve completed the previous two missions (Get Organized Mission #1: Fill a Hu-u-uge Trash Bag and Get Organized Mission #2: Detox Your Briefcase/Tote/Bag), congratulations!
Keep up the momentum with this week’s task, which helps you get your finances sorted.
This is one of those high-payoff projects. It takes only a little time to set up yet saves time, bother and possibly penalty charges later on.
Disclaimer: This post is designed to provide organizing help, not financial advice. Please be proactive and decide whether you should talk to a financial professional.

Done!!
Utilities; Internet; Cell phone; Cable TV; Car loan payments; Credit card payments; Life Insurance and Co-Payments for Prescription Medication.
The securest bank online is PayPal which can be used to purchase on E-Bay, Big Fish Games, Microsoft and etc.
You don’t have a bank account you can purchase from Ace Express or a Western Union store debit card and you load the card once a month and pay your bills. Check fee requirements before purchasing.
When your bills arrive in the mail on the front of the envelope mark the due date of the bill and the date you paid it; amount and confirmation number. If you mail using money orders then mark on the envelope the date you mailed and keep the copy inside the envelope.
You may wish to use an expanding envelope to keep receipts or monthly bills in.

Done!
I am really lucky with this one as I have all but one rarely used account set up on standing order/direct debit. This does mean there are never any late payment fees, but I do wonder if it then allows me to completely forget about things financially, hence the piles and piles of paper filing and my complete lack of properly managing my finances. I cannot remember the last time I reviewed my utility providers or considered remortgaging etc. I suppose one step at a time, and I should be grateful for this easier mission for me, some are harder than the others for everyone.
Completed
revisiting this. Spouse has a great system and handles this, but I have been trying to keep track on my own, in case something would happen to him, I would know where to find the information and how to get to it. I now have my own 3 ring binder that includes this information, but needs to be updated as well as a copy of the wills. In case of an emergency, I can take this book with me and have it in one place. So that is one of my goals this week.
This is done
This was already organized for me and not something the kids could participate in…
Challenge #3 complete! I prefer to pay my credit cards bills manually, and our rent/daycare/school tuition payments are not able to be paid automatically or electronically (which is fine, they’re all due on the 1st of the month). I only had to set up three accounts for autopay, but now they’re done, and all of our bills will be paid during the first two weeks of each month. That feels so much better!
Almost everything I do has been electronically modified. I am calling my bank today to see if I can stop the hard copies from rolling in and cluttering my house. Consider this done!
I am lucky enough to say that I have all my bill payments automised already (fed up paying late fees a few years ago). That doesn’t mean I don’t have a mountain of disorganised paperwork (or 24 mountains) and a list as long as my arm of things that need to get financially done, but I am content that I can tick this one off!
