My main issue here is not wanting to waste food. I cook a LOT and hate throwing food away. My freezer is crammed full of food, so lately I’ve been trying to eat a lot of leftovers rather than freezing them. I’m going to try harder to not beat myself up if I decide that something has to go in the bin…
We hear this a lot Jenny.
We also hear of people who insist on keeping left overs in the fridge, only to throw it out untouched on trash day.
I agree, don’t beat yourself up if something is put in the bin. Perhaps there is a neighbour or friend you can share the meal portion with? Or perhaps start cooking with smaller portions/ingredients so you only eat what you cook. Whatever it takes to help you avoid overeating! 🙂
Thanks Kylie! Good point about sharing with a neighbour. My ex-boyfriend lives in the same building and from now on I’ll see if he can use anything that I’m otherwise going to chuck! Jx
Our group responses are as follows:
Habit: When you are dining at buffets we tend to eat too much food. Only take one serving of meat, potatoes, vegetable, dessert and drink.
Timing: Try to eat your meals around the same time each day. But it’s not etched in stone. Suggested times: Breakfast 8-10AM; Lunch 12Noon-1PM and Dinner 6-7PM. Healthy snacks at 3 & one hour before bedtime.
Politeness: Be polite and say thank you if you can use it if you can’t accept it thank them for thinking of you.
Cost-effectiveness: When dining out ask for a doggie bag and take the rest of the meal home which is considered a left over and can be used for another meal.
Because it’s there: When I was growing up our dog ate the leftovers. If we had something on our plate, we didn’t like we’d give to our dog under the table.
You are well on your way to a healthier you. Yes, it is important to take steps instead of the elevator. Make sure you are capable of walking steps. Where I live we have cement steps. If you’re walking in a walker, using crutches or with the aid of a cane your doctor may not want you climbing steps [I don’t want you to fall and end up with broken bones.] Elevators will be best for you. – If you’re physically fit take those stairs. I’m proud of all of you and please stay accountable. Good Luck.
