Had a meeting today about a tricky subject with an annoying work colleague that I was putting off – feel better now. I have another meeting later with the same colleague where I hope I can stick to my guns and I can also say “no” and kill two birds/tasks today!
Ooh, this one took me a while. Getting things in the post seems to be my stumbling block at the moment. I owe a lot of people things that need to be sent out. I decided not to move on to the next task until I had written a letter to someone in Canada that I have to send some soup to. Letter is written and I pledge to get the soup sent by next Monday. Or else! Might try and get the second letter on my list written this week too. Must stop procrastinating on this one issue…
I made a new list and compared it to my previous list. This list is shorter (I had since done several items on the previous list) and the things on it are generally more important. Today I chose to be in touch with an elderly aunt who lives alone, which has been on my mental to-do list for awhile (other family members are also in touch with her, so I am also able to check up on her that way). I have noticed that I am starting to deal with some tasks immediately rather than putting them on my to-do list, which feels good when I do that. In one case, it save me a couple of days of stress when I would have been mulling over (and dreading) an email I had to write, questioning whether I should write the email at all, etc. Having ‘not’ gotten all stressed out about it made writing the email easier, helped me put the situation out of my mind, and allowed a faster resolution to the situation. I was really pleased with myself for doing that 🙂
You’ve made wonderful progress Ellen!
Aarrghh – GOW has beaten me on this one – in spite of my efforts to procrastinate I have crossed 3 things off my list in 10 minutes.
Haha Kim!! Love this. 🙂
These last two weeks I have completed 3 major stages of projects at work (hence now being behind on this program) but that together with my monthly report and my emails in my inbox being flagged fully have been 5 things I have been procrastinating over for months. Heading into this weekend feels a bit better albeit that I am trying not to think of all the other things I am now behind on! So the circle goes on!
This is an area I definitely need to work on. I usually keep a list of things I need to get done, and many of those are things I have procrastinated on. Yesterday I got some paperwork out of the way that only took me about 15 minutes! Makes me wonder why I procrastinate when not doing so feels great. I’ll continue to work on at least one thing I’ve procrastinated every day.
So true Lety! Thinking about/dreading the thing is so much worse than actually DOING the thing! 🙂
Yes! Too much wasted energy.
After reading today’s challenge…I went into my garage and through my house and gathered all those “things I just had to have at Estate Sales, Yard Sales, etc and cleaned them up and will put them up for Sale at an Estate Sale we are having in June. What a difference this has made in my garage. I know that my “plan” for restoring the old chair, chest and bicycle will not happen this year so out they go! Simplify and let go!
True confessions… I procrastinated on doing the anti-procrastination one. I opened the e-mail on Saturday morning as I was relaxing with a cup of tea before the kids woke. After making my list, I decided to continue to relax rather that cross something off my list. Once they woke, I was busy all day long. So here I am Sunday morning before they get up and I’m off to tackle one of the things on my list.
I made my list but I’m sure there’s more I can add to it. And then I did the one that felt the best to do. The one that felt the best to do was the one that was most important to me because it involved a friendship I care about. I thought I was going to pick on that I’ve been procrastinating on longest but happy I chose one that reflects and supports the priorities list I set for myself from the Day 2 challenge 🙂
Ah nice choice then Ellen! 🙂
Thanks, Michele. I felt good about my choice all day 🙂
I am signed up… but there’s no challenge… did I get dropped?

I figured out what the problem was . . . my bad.
Wednesday is my anti-procrastination day. I have a follow-up folder in my email inbox, and a follow-up file folder on my desk. My first task on Wednesdays is to attend to things that reside in either of those folders. This morning, I resolved to do something else I’ve been putting off…..make a lunch schedule for my son, and make lunches for the week in advance. I’ve made two for this week, and will do the rest after I hang out this morning’s laundry.
Great strategy you’ve got there Marla!
Follow up folders…what a good idea!!! As long as I remember to check them…
I have a standing file on my desk with a folder for each day: Monday – receipts and banking, Tuesday – correspondence & syncing devices, Wednesday – Follow-Ups and Phone Calls, Thursday – Contacts to enter & Kindle sync, Friday – filing. My reminders app also gives me a reminder each morning to check the associated file folder. I did this about 18 months ago and it’s one of the best stress-reducers I’ve found, because I can set all things aside to the appropriate day and only concentrate on one type of task each day.
