Welcome to the final (FINAL!!) day of 7 Days To An Organized Home Office. Woohoo!
Today’s task will take about 1 hour for the average home office. Depending on your home office situation you may need more or less time.
Today we’ll finish dealing with those 5 boxes. And we’ll make your home office all spiffy. How great will that feel!

I feel now that I have a system in place and that it will be easier to continue on with a clutter free office –because I am now going back and start from the beginning and get rid of more stuff — I have already decluttered about half –the whole floor can be seen now –next empty a bookcase –getting started was the hardest part and this week has provide the guidance I needed —
My group has learned the proper procedures for sorting piles of papers and placing them in one of five categories: shred, recycle, trash, archive and action. Filing categories are: academic, financial, health/medical, legal documents, tax records and warranties.
We have less stress using our home office if kept neat and organized at all times. When you’re finished for the day with your project[s] put everything away.
Nice work, everyone!
I am wiping down my desk and looking at the good work achieved which means finally after many years trying to get organised I used this 7 Day plan (ok – it actually took me 14 days)and I am just applying the finishing touches. Thanks Michelle – I am now going to to start on my wardrobe. I am so inspired that even my children are starting to join in!
Oh how fabulous Natalie! I love that your kids are inspired too!! Thank you for your motivation. 🙂
Oh how fabulous Natalie! I love that your kids are inspired too!! Thank you for your motivation. 🙂
Ohh dear – I think I killed my shredder 🙁
Shredder not dead just sleeping – YAY 🙂
And double YAY because I made it – just – boxes done, clean and tidy done, organised office – DONE 🙂 This was such a terrific challenge Michele – thank you so very much. I can truly say this has improved my life significantly 🙂 Not everything is purged – yet, but everything is organised and ready for. I love my clean, organised office <3 Big hugs of gratitude to you Michele
Jorja Wills Oh Jorja that makes my day! Thank you for being such a motivated home-office declutterer. 🙂
This has been a very liberating experience for me! I still have more papers to go through and file or dispense with, but I AM getting there! Hopefully over Easter there will be time to finish it all. Doing this and the declutter your wardrobe one las year has changed how I deal with “stuff “, which is a great feeling! Thanks Michelle!
I love that feeling Anne! Thank you for your motivation and your comments. And especially for this comment. 🙂
Just a quick question? How come I can no longer see each day when I click on the link? I haven’t finished and need to keep going. Thank you!
HI Rachael…are you sure you are logged in? I can still see mine when I click on the link but I have to be logged in. You can see a certain portion without being logged in but to see the task, you have to log in. My understanding was that once you bought it, you have it for an indefinite period. Hope this helps but if not I’m sure one of Michele’s people will see it soon! Good luck!
Hi Rachael. As Terri kindly mentioned, it sounds like you’re not logged in. If you are and still can’t see the content then please contact HelpDesk@GetOrganizedWizard.com and they’ll sort it out for you.
PS You’ll have access to the program for 2 months from the start date (18 March) or for as long as you’re a Premium Subscriber. So keep going and keep letting me know how you’re progressing. 🙂
I’m positive I’m logged in but I’ll check in the morning again. Thanks ladies!
You know, Michele, as I continue this massive purging, I am thinking about the fact that twice in the past I have hired a professional organizer to come in and help and advise me. Both suggested all kinds of systems….(the 2nd one actually found that the systems were there) but neither suggested this first step of purging! And it is not only having the step but supporting us with the logic that allows us to get rid of it when coming up with reasons for why to keep all this stuff. It has been gut wrenching and I could probably use a little therapy as a result :-), but I know that it is going to change my life when it’s done! Thank you!
Ah Terri this comment made my day. 😀
Thank you Michele for the inspiration, opportunity and kick in the booty! 🙂 Even though this will be far more than 7 days for me, I am now setting a daily goal!
Terri, you’ll have access to the program for 2 months from the start date (18 March) or for as long as you’re a Premium Subscriber. And if you’re still going after that and want more time just let me know. So take your time and enjoy the process!
I am still working on Day 1 but making progress! I put out 7 boxes full of papers, prof mags etc for recycling. One huge trash can is ready to go out Tuesday. Approx 100 prof books have been pulled off shelves to find a new home for. Also have a full box of electronics to get rid of. I have moved piles and crates of random paper to floor of another room and have begun sorting into keep and trash and some specifics. SO though I’m on Day 1 of purging still, I’m making progress bit by bit. And I’m going to keep at it!
And today I have purged TWENTY 4″ binders of professional journals etc and teachers with whom I am working have already claimed them for delivery this week! 😉 I am trying so hard to stay in the moment with my daily goal and not focus on how many weeks this is going to take to actually get to Day 7 of the program! Hard stuff!
When I am cleaning or organizing–I try to remember it didn’t get this way in a day so if you can clean up several years of junk in a couple of weeks (or a few weeks:)–that is super progress! You are on your way!!
Great response Ann! Thanks for the reminder! So true of so many things in life – right? 😉
Terri you should feel really happy with your progress. Getting rid of stuff that doesn’t serve you will make every other step in this program so much easier. Organizing is a superficial exercise if you don’t remove the excess first. Yay!
Ann Waddle Well said Ann!
I didn’t have much time during the week to work on this project due to work and a 3 year old that keep me busy in the evenings but I did spend a good solid 10 hours today working on my office! 🙂 I am going to post my after pictures now and they won’t look like I did much because we are moving in two months. Here is what I got done: Recycled a laundry bin full of magazines and two large trash bags of other papers. I boxed/bagged items for donation. I cataloged books into my BookCrawler app and packed them for the move; 9 boxes of just books. I put all my filing which I will work on during the week into one bin that I will need to sort and perhaps purge some more. I filed up a couple of trash bags with trash and I have a bunch of boxes worth of stuff that I will be shredding as well. I already had a great filing system in place that I love. I also am working on a layout for how I want my room/furniture to be setup at my new house when we move in two months. This was an OUTSTANDING program Michele! Thank you so much for all your wonderful ideas/tips/instructions, I am forever grateful that I was able to rid myself of so much extra weight/stuff we don’t need/want anymore. More time to enjoy life with the things I do care about! 🙂
Wow Tami – you’ve done an amazing job!! Thank you for your motivation and hard work – and thank you especially for your kind words, which mean a lot to me. 🙂
Oh–and I love YOU, Michele–for guiding me through this process! I just posted after pictures to pinterest–some of the changes appear small, but they are in fact HUGE! I mean, eating breakfast on the kitchen bar instead of having it covered with office stuff? GREAT! And having the printer in the same room where I work on the computer–now, that was a great idea:) And having the file box for bills and other paper at the same spot we drop all the mail…I am so excited! Thanks so much for all the help:) And I have also enjoyed the comments and processes of the other folks–some of their ideas prompted me to make some changes in my processes. THANKS! I will be doing other challenges:)
Congratulations Ann! Very impressed that you have made it, I propose to, in good time 🙂 Well Done!!! I’ll check out the photo’s on Pinterest 🙂
I love your pics Ann! And I know how much apparently small changes can make a big difference – they change how you FEEL. If you can, it would be great if you upload your after pics to this board: http://pinterest.com/micheleconnolly/7-days-to-an-organized-home-office-after/
I’d like to make a collage out of the community’s fabulous work to share. 🙂
Julie Kay Nelson You’ll get there for sure Julie!
I have tried to repin pics–but they keep going to the before board–I cannot see the entire name of the board, just the 7 days to an organized home shows up on the list so I don’t know if it is before or after..and I try both of them…sorry…this is the most frustrating part of the challenge:)
Ann Waddle It is frustrating! I tried to change the board names so that BEFORE and AFTER were at the beginning, but that changed the URL so that none of the links or invites would work. Argh! The easiest thing is to go to the board first and pin from there: http://pinterest.com/micheleconnolly/7-days-to-an-organized-home-office-after/ 🙂
