Welcome to the 30-Day Organize-athon!
In today’s 5 minutes we’re going to organize your bedside table or nightstand.
Cool – let’s do it.
Day 24: Organize Your Bedside Area
Step 1: Remove anything from your bedside area that detracts from a sense of calm and tranquility, such as:
- Computers, printers, laptops
- TV
- Paperwork
- Kids’ toys
- Exercise equipment
- Work projects
- Mobile phone
- Laundry
- Too many books
- Too many magazines
- Excess furniture
- Random clothes
- Unpleasant alarm.
Step 2: Toss or donate anything you don’t need or love.
Step 3: Relocate anything that belongs elsewhere.
And you’re done!
Got an Extra 5 Minutes?
Create a sanctuary around your bed. Add any of these to help create a relaxing, sleep-inviting space:
- Lovely bed linen
- Fluffy pillows
- Cozy blankets and comforters
- Soft lamps
- Pleasant bedtime reading
- Relaxing music and iPod dock
- Water glass and bottle
- A gentle alarm
- Sleeping mask – if the sun disturbs you in the early morning
- Ear plugs – if you need them
- Scented candles or oil burner.
*yawns* Nap time anyone?

I have done this as the 11th thing (not technically day). I am lucky that I realised some years ago that working in my bedroom, piling things up around my head, having a rough alarm clock and a TV did not let me sleep peacefully at all. The last two years I have slept badly and I put this down in the main to work stressing me out, but does include the odd family crisis and a new home breaking the good sleep habits. This is one area that I do consistently maintain, and again today I think this is another realisation for me, it’s about consistency. I am not bad at all at the “all or nothing” approach when the mood hits me, but I think if you can maintain these things consistently then that is half the battle…maybe…still thinking that one through…
So true, Amanda. I have to confess that I don’t like cleaning/organizing – I just like the way it feels when things ARE clean and organized. So I’ve learned that the best way to have this feeling most of the time is maintenance and consistency, as you’ve said. 🙂 You might also like this post: http://www.getorganizedwizard.com/blog/2009/08/home-organization-my-very-best-life-changing-tip-for-a-clutter-free-home/

Well – beside my bed I have little couches for the little bodies in our house… I know we ALL do things different – some times with businesses, kids, family etc – the road of least resistance is the one that helps keep you sane…..
Mind you that is no excuse for the endless toys that ALSO find their way in here – luckily they are all sorted and this task is DONE

I like to keep the bedroom clear and neat. So for this exercise, I cleared out my partner’s drawers of loose change and receipts. I have now put the change into the grandkids banks, with his permission, and he says he will go through the receipts…
Just one small bedside table for me but I have a window sill so I cleaned that too.

Lots of magazines there waiting to be read. Got rid of them .. Out of date now anyway! Tidied as best I could but the whole room needs work to make it a sanctuary. Not my favorite room in the house but at least it look heaps better than it did. 🙂
